Learn what inspired some of the most legendary filmmakers in Hollywood history, and follow their stories from their earliest personal films to bringing George Lucas\u2019 vision to life.\u00a0 From Imagine\u00a0Documentaries and Lucasfilm, and executive produced by Brian Grazer and\u00a0Ron Howard, the six-part documentary series premieres exclusively on Disney+ July 27.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, May 27, attendees of\u00a0<i>Star Wars\u00a0<\/i>Celebration will be among the first in the world to get a sneak peek at \u201cLight &amp; Magic\u201d with an \u201cilluminating\u201d discussion panel featuring Lawrence Kasdan and Ron Howard, joined by VFX titans Dennis Muren, Phil Tippett, Joe Johnston and Rose Duignan, and Lynwen Brennan, Lucasfilm executive vice president and general manager.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10121\" src=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Light-and-Magic1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"770\" height=\"549\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Light-and-Magic1-1.jpg 770w, https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Light-and-Magic1-1-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Light-and-Magic1-1-768x548.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Light-and-Magic1-1-696x496.jpg 696w, https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Light-and-Magic1-1-589x420.jpg 589w, https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Light-and-Magic1-1-100x70.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>George Lucas wanted his career making film <i>Star Wars <\/i>to include visual effects that had never been seen on film before. Lucas approached Douglas Trumbull(<a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/filmmakers\/qa-with-douglas-trumbull-a-special-effect-supervisor-who-worked-on-2001-a-space-odyssey-blade-runner-star-trek-the-motion-picture-and-close-encounters-of-the-third-kind\/\">Douglas Trumbull Q&amp;A<\/a>), best known for the effects on 2001 : A Space Odyssey and Silent Running. Even though Trumbull declined as he was already committed to working on \u201cClose Encounters of the Third Kind\u201d, but he suggested his assistant John Dykstra. Dykstra brought together a small team of college students, artists, and engineers, and set them up in a warehouse in Van Nuys, California.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>After seeing the map for the location was named as Light Industrial, Lucas named the group Industrial Light and Magic, which became the Special Visual Effects department on <i>Star Wars<\/i>.
