Back-to-back stories this week in the Hollywood Reporter<\/i> <\/a>and Vanity Fair<\/i><\/a> are delivering a double whammy to the already notorious reputation of the irascible producer, revealing some of the nefarious goings-on behind the curtain of the ironically named \u201centertainment\u201d industry.<\/p>\n

The headlines tell it all. Tatiana Siegel\u2019s expos\u00e9 in the Hollywood Reporter<\/i> is titled \u201c\u2019Everyone Just Knows He\u2019s an Abusive Monster\u2019: Scott Rudin\u2019s Ex-Staffers Speak Out on Abusive Behavior.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Following suit, Chris Murphy\u2019s Vanity Fair<\/i> piece is headlined \u201cScott Rudin Accused of Tyrannical and Abusive Behavior by Former Employees.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both articles recount a lengthy dirty-laundry list of punishments \u2013 both corporal and mental \u2013 inflicted on cowering employees by a boss who seems to have done everything to gall his HR departments short of producing a sequel to Tyrannosaurus Rex.<\/i><\/p>\n

In an industry already reeling from the #MeToo controversies, Rudin\u2019s behavior appears more sadistic than sexual. Interestingly, Rudin was involved in a public spat with Harvey Weinstein twenty years ago when they were working on The Hours<\/i><\/strong>, telling a reporter: \u201cWhen I’m doing a Miramax movie, I work for him. And I don’t like that feeling. I chafe under that. I especially chafe under it when I feel that I’m on a leash.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unleashed, Rudin is remembered as having perpetrated a plethora of violent incidents.\u00a0 <\/span>A staffer was once sent to the emergency room when Rudin allegedly smashed a computer monitor against him, a volcanic outburst described by Siegel as a \u201ccacophonous collision of metal, glass and limb.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>In his article, Murphy citied a New York Post<\/i> <\/a>article alleging that Rudin had \u201cpushed assistants out of moving cars and fired assistants for bringing him the wrong muffin, mispronouncing names, and, at least in one instance, [for] having to attend a funeral.<\/p>\n

Rudin was also accused of temper tantrums in which he lobbed office equipment at employees, ranging from staplers to laptops to glass bowls. Former colleague Andrew Coles told,\u00a0” <\/i>it was a very intense environment, but that just felt different. It was a new level of unhinged \u2014 a level of lack of control that I had never seen before in a workplace.” \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Megan Ellison, the CEO of Annapurna, slammed producer Scott Rudin in a Tweet\u00a0<\/a>Wednesday for his \u201cabusive, racist and sexist\u201d behavior following an expos\u00e9 that detailed some of the producer\u2019s alleged treatment of his assistants and staff. She said \u201cThis piece barely scratches the surface of Scott Rudin\u2019s abusive, racist, and sexist behavior.<\/p>\n
