\u201dVolcano<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cJohn Q<\/strong>\u201d actress Anne Heche is facing a grim prognosis after suffering a catastrophic brain injury, a rep for the Emmy-winning actress said in the statement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Her rep says: \u201cUnfortunately, due to her accident, Anne Heche suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma, in critical condition. She is not expected to survive. It has long been her choice to donate her organs, and she is being kept on life support to determine if any are viable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Heche\u2019s car reportedly collided with a two-story home, causing a fire which fifty-nine firefighters battled for over an hour until she could be safely pulled out of the wreckage. Heche was reportedly able to communicate at the time of her rescue but lost consciousness shortly thereafter and never regained it. She has been hospitalized and in a coma ever since.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier Thursday, police said they were investigating Heche for driving under the influence. Detectives with a search warrant took a sample of her blood and found narcotics in her system, LAPD spokesperson Officer Jeff Lee said.<\/p>\n

Evidence is still being gathered from the crash, police said, and they would present a case to prosecutors if it is warranted when the investigation is complete.<\/p>\n

The statement goes on to express gratitude for the outpouring of support and for the care shown for Heche, 53, in the\u00a0<\/span>aftermath of the devastating car crash.<\/p>\n

“We want to thank everyone for their kind wishes and prayers for Anne’s recovery and thank the dedicated staff and wonderful nurses that cared for Anne at the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills hospital,” the statement continues.<\/p>\n

As for her legacy, “Anne had a huge heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit,” says the rep on behalf of the family. “More than her extraordinary talent, she saw spreading kindness and joy as her life’s work \u2014 especially moving the needle for acceptance of who you love. She will be remembered for her courageous honesty and dearly missed for her light.”<\/p>\n

The news was confirmed<\/a> by a representative for her family to the US online media outlet TMZ, who said in a statement: \u201cWe have lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend.
