After premiering at this year’s Sundance festival, Sony Pictures Classics has revealed an official teaser trailer for the film Living<\/i><\/b>, which is an English-language remake of the Japanese auteur Akira Kurosawa film, \u201cIkiru\u201d<\/i><\/b> from 1952.<\/p>\n

The trailer showcases an inspiring experience for viewers despite the dark subject matter with uplifting soundtrack and gorgeous cinematography that sets the scene for what’s to come.<\/p>\n

Set against a post-World War 2 London, “Living<\/strong>“<\/i> centers on Williams played by Bill Nighy<\/b>, a grumpy, curmudgeonly government office worker who\u2019s empty and meaningless takes a turn after he’s diagnosed with terminal cancer. He realizes he hasn’t really be “living” and goes about trying to change that.<\/p>\n

Our writer Abe had a chance to review<\/a> this film at the Sundance, \u201cNighy is a terrific actor equally capable of drama and comedy. This role relies heavily on the former, reminiscent of his recent turns in films like Hope Gap<\/i><\/b> and The Bookshop<\/i><\/b>. His facial expressions do most of the talking, but audiences are also treated to Nighy\u2019s singing, which is a sincere improvement on his purposely humorous \u201cChristmas Is All Around\u201d from Love Actually<\/i><\/b>. There is a genuine, raw roughness to the way in which he sings, and it comes across as very emotional and haunting.<\/p>\n

Along with\u00a0“Ikiru<\/i><\/strong>,”\u00a0Living<\/i> is adapted from Leo Tolstoy<\/b>‘s The Death of Ivan Ilyich<\/i>. The screenplay is written by Kazuo Ishiguro<\/b> and directed by Oliver Hermanus<\/b>. Additional creative team members include costume design by Sandy Powell<\/b>, music by Emelie Levienaise-Farrouch<\/b>, cinematography by Jamie D. Ramsay<\/b> SASC, and production design by Helen Scott<\/b>. Aimee Lou Wood<\/b>, Alex Sharp<\/b>, and Tom Burke <\/b>also star.<\/p>\n
