Published reports indicate that Damon Lindelof is developing the project as a co-writer, though the identity of his writing colleague has yet to be revealed.<br \/><br \/>Neither Lucasfilm nor Obaid-Chinoy was available for comment on the secretive project. The last <em><strong>Star Wars<\/strong><\/em> release from the studio was in 2019, when <em><strong>Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker<\/strong><\/em> was launched. It\u2019s likely the new film is still a ways off\u2014light years?\u2014since Lucasfilm has been focusing on other projects of late.<br \/><br \/>As reported by Angelique Jackson and Adam B. Vary in<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2022\/film\/news\/star-wars-damon-lindelof-sharmeen-obaid-chinoy-1235412206\/\"> <i>Variety<\/i><\/a>: \u201cNews of the developing project comes as Lucasfilm is at a crossroads with <strong><em>Star Wars<\/em><\/strong>. While the studio has experienced great success with its live-action series for Disney+ \u2014 including <em><strong>The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/strong><\/em>, and <em><strong>Andor<\/strong> <\/em>\u2014 it has not released a film in theaters since 2019\u2019s <em><strong>The Rise of Skywalker<\/strong><\/em>.<br \/><br \/>Obaid-Chinoy, the Canadian-Pakistani director, is especially noted for her work highlighting the inequalities faced by women worldwide. She herself holds the record for being the first female film director to have won two Academy Awards by the age of 37. Recently, Obaid-Chinoy directed a few episodes of <em><strong>Ms. Marvel<\/strong><\/em> for Marvel Studios, and is acclaimed for having directed a number of Oscar-winning documentary shorts including <em><strong>Saving Face<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness<\/strong><\/em>. Most recently, she\u2019s been engaged in directing, for Paramount, an adaptation of <em><strong>Brilliance<\/strong> <\/em>that will star Will Smith.<br \/><br \/>This will not be Lindelof\u2019s first journey into space. He won Emmys for his work on HBO\u2019s <em><strong>Watchmen<\/strong> <\/em>in 2019. He also produced <em><strong>Star Trek<\/strong><\/em> in 2009 and was producer and co-writer of<em><strong> Star Trek Into Darkness<\/strong> <\/em>in 2013.
