Australia has just given a firm endorsement to the upcoming prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road<\/em> in the form of massive incentives on both the federal and state levels. New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian indicated in a Twitter post that filming the movie in Australia will create 850 jobs and add at least $350 million AUD into the economy. This is the latest positive step in the film industry in the Oceanic country that has already reached a good place in its handling of the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n

Mad Max begins its cinematic life back in 1979 with the release of the first film in the series, directed by George Miller and starring Mel Gibson as the post-apocalyptic road warrior.<\/p>\n

Two sequels followed in the 1980s, and the franchise got a major reboot in 2015 with Mad Max: Fury Road<\/em>, which starred Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy, and took home six Academy Awards. Two more films are in development: a sequel starring Hardy as the title character and a separate prequel called Furiosa<\/em>, which will see Anya Taylor-Joy take over Theron\u2019s role. In the latter, which is currently moving forward, Taylor-Joy, fresh off an acclaimed performance in The Queen\u2019s Gambit<\/em>, will be joined by Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.<\/p>\n

Miller, who has directed every installment of the series, is currently working on post-production for Three Thousand Years of Longing<\/em>, featuring Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba. Regarding Furiosa<\/em>, which will serve as his next project, he shared that \u201cthe support of the Federal and New South Wales Governments were pivotal. They made it possible for the film to be greenlit, shot in Australia and for the production to be based in our home state.<\/p>\n
