“The Shining<\/strong>“<\/i> actress Shelley Duvall is headed back to the big screen via “The Forest Hills<\/strong>“\u00a0<\/i>\u2014 an indie horror\/thriller film directed by Scott Goldberg, which marks her first project in 20 years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to a press release of TODAY<\/a>, the film follows a disturbed man (Rico) who is tormented by nightmarish visions, after enduring head trauma while camping in the Catskill Mountains. Duvall will play the mother of Mendez’s character Rico, who is mentally and emotionally disturbed. Furthermore, Duvall’s character will also serve as Rico’s inner voice throughout the film. You can check out the first behind-the-scenes still of Duvall from The Forest Hills below. Edward Furlong and Dee Wallace will also appear in the movie.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Scott Hansen is producing the pic alongside Dreznick Goldberg Productions and Digital Thunderdome Studios. \u201cWe are huge fans of \u201cThe Shining<\/strong>”\u00a0<\/i>and it\u2019s honestly one of my favorite horror movies of all time, up there with John Carpenter\u2019s “Halloween”\u00a0<\/i><\/strong>and George A. Romero\u2019s “Day of the Dead<\/strong>“<\/i> with the dark tones they delivered in their movies, along with perfect scores and elements that make them my personal favorites. Shelley contributed to “The Shining<\/strong>”\u00a0<\/i>being an absolute masterpiece by giving her all, and performing in a way that really showcased the fear and horror of a mother in isolation\u201d said Goldberg.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

DuVall is known for her collaborations with auteurs like Robert Altman, Woody Allen, and Stanley Kubrick. The screen icon is best known for her work on the films including “McCabe & Mrs. Miller<\/i><\/strong>,” “Thieves Like Us<\/i><\/strong>,””Nashville<\/i><\/strong>,”\u00a0“Annie Hall<\/strong><\/i>,” “Three Women<\/i><\/strong>,” “The Shining<\/i><\/strong>,” “Popeye<\/i><\/strong>,” “Time Bandits<\/i><\/strong>,”\u00a0“Roxanne<\/strong>“<\/i> and “The Portrait of a Lady<\/strong>.”<\/i>\u00a0She\u2019s been honored over the course over her career with the Cannes Film Festival\u2019s prize for Best Actress, a Peabody Award, two Emmy and a BAFTA noms with many accolades, has not appeared in a film since 2002.<\/p>\n

In February 2021, Duvall spoke to The Hollywood Reporter<\/i><\/a> which she reflected on making “The Shining<\/i>,<\/strong>” which took 56 weeks to film and currently holds a Guinness World Record for “most retakes for one scene with dialogue.”<\/p>\n

Kubrick\u2019s daughter Vivian Kubrick filmed the documentary \u201cMaking \u2018The Shining<\/strong>,’\u201d which captured the emotional toll the film took on Duvall. Kubrick pushed Duvall to the limit across a half-year-long shoot at Elstree Studios in England.<\/p>\n
