The novel, which moves between Showa Japan (1926-1989) and the year 2050, is an account of the rivalry between a daughter-in-law and her mother-in-law.<br \/><br \/>While details about the director and plot have not been revealed, Netflix says the film will be \u201can action comedy two-hander\u201d with the two actors in place. The screenplay will be written by Olivia Milch, who wrote, directed, and produced <em><strong>Dude<\/strong> <\/em>for Netflix. Milch is also credited as the co-writer of <em><strong>Ocean\u2019s 8<\/strong><\/em>.<br \/><br \/>This is not the first time one of Isaka\u2019s novels has been adapted for the screen. He is perhaps best known for having written <em>Maria Beetle<\/em>, which was turned into the 2022 comedic thriller <em><strong>Bullet Train<\/strong><\/em> starring Brad Pitt. Isaka\u2019s so-called \u201cHuman\u201d trilogy, which includes <em>Maria Beetle<\/em> and <em>Three Assassins<\/em>, was the inspiration for <em><strong>Grasshopper<\/strong><\/em>, a film released in 2015.<br \/><br \/>Anne Hathaway won an Oscar for her role in <em><strong>Les Miserables<\/strong><\/em> (2013), having garnered a nomination for <em><strong>Rachel Getting Married<\/strong><\/em> (2009). More recently, she starred in HBO Max\u2019s adaptation of <em><strong>The Witches<\/strong><\/em>. She also appeared opposite Jeremy Strong and Anthony Hopkins in James Grey\u2019s autobiographical drama <em><strong>A<\/strong><strong>rmaggedon Time<\/strong><\/em>, which was lauded by critics at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. On television, she was seen as the wife of WeWork\u2019s Adam Neumann in <em><strong>WeCrashed<\/strong><\/em>, a series for Apple TV+.<br \/><br \/>Selma Hayek Pinault won an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of painter Frida Kahlo in the 2002 biopic <em><strong>Frida<\/strong><\/em>. She most recently appeared opposite Lady Gaga in Ridley Scott\u2019s crime drama <em><strong>House of Gucci<\/strong> <\/em>and in Marvel\u2019s <em><strong>Eternals<\/strong><\/em>.
