Netflix will be investing nearly $900 million in the repurposing, which will take several years to complete. <br \/><br \/>Gov. Murphy called Netflix\u2019s move a \u201ctransformative investment [that] will serve as a cornerstone in our efforts to create a thriving industry from whole cloth,\u201d adding that the project would generate \u201can entirely new ecosystem\u201d consisting of housing, hotels and ancillary businesses and services in addition to the production facility itself. Murphy\u2019s remarks, Netflix\u2019s Co-CEO Ted Sarandos said: \u201cWe believe a Netflix studio can boost the local and state economy with thousands of new jobs and billions in economic output.\u201d <br \/><br \/>The growth of streaming services has been a boon to the metropolitan area in recent years, and New Jersey has been aggressively trying to attract such projects to the state. Fort Monmouth is located in northeastern New Jersey about 30 miles from New York City. Netflix already has a production facility located in the Bushwick section of the borough of Brooklyn. <br \/><br \/>For the Fort Monmouth project, Netflix will be spending $55 million for the 289-acre plot of land and another $850 million to build the new facility. When completed, it will be one of the largest fully integrated production facilities in the world, rivaling Netflix\u2019s 300-acre hub in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
