{"id":1442,"date":"2021-04-23T21:06:47","date_gmt":"2021-04-24T01:06:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=1442"},"modified":"2021-04-23T21:10:48","modified_gmt":"2021-04-24T01:10:48","slug":"martin-scorsese-and-john-carney-team-up-on-new-gershwin-vehicle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=1442","title":{"rendered":"Martin Scorsese and John Carney Team Up  On New Gershwin Vehicle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2021\/film\/news\/martin-scorsese-george-gershwin-movie-musical-fascinating-rhythm-1234957823\/\"><strong><i>Variety<\/i> <\/strong><\/a>reported this week that Martin Scorsese and John Carney are at work on <strong><i>Fascinating Rhythm<\/i><\/strong>, a musical-fantasy movie based on the works of iconic American composer George Gershwin.<\/p>\n<p>Gershwin (1898-1937) is renowned for many early twentieth-century standards like \u201c<strong>Summertime<\/strong>,\u201d \u201c<strong>Swanee<\/strong>,\u201d \u201c<strong>I Got Rhythm<\/strong>,\u201d \u201c<strong>Oh, Lady Be Good<\/strong>,\u201d and \u201c<strong>Embraceable You<\/strong>.\u201d His stage productions included such masterworks like <strong><i>An American in Paris<\/i><\/strong> and <i><strong>Porgy<\/strong> and <strong>Bess<\/strong><\/i>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Scorsese and Irwin Winkler will be producing the new film, which will be directed by Carney, whose credits include <i><strong>Modern Love<\/strong>, <strong>Sing Street<\/strong>,<\/i> and <strong><i>Once<\/i><\/strong>. Carney will be sharing screenwriting credits with Chris Cluess, who authored the scripts for <i>SCTV<\/i> and <i>Night Court<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><i>Fascinating Rhythm<\/i><\/strong> is not likely to be a biopic of Gershwin in the style of Irving Rapper\u2019s 1945 Warner Brothers classic <strong><i>Rhapsody in Blue<\/i><\/strong>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Instead, the new production, being developed by Endeavour Content,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>is<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>purported to be a musical fantasy focused on the rhapsodic journey of a contemporary woman in New York City, where Gershwin did much of his work until his death In 1937.<\/p>\n<p>Scorsese had earlier hoped to produce a Gershwin biopic in the 1990s with Richard Dreyfus and Robert De Niro but the project never saw completion. In 2010, Steven Spielberg was contemplating a similar venture with Zachary Quinto in the title role.
