Guillermo del Toro<\/a> is reuniting with Netflix to make another stop-motion animated movie. The acclaimed filmmaker, who recently won the Golden Globe and BAFTA Film Award for Best Animated Feature for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio<\/em><\/strong>, will direct another major animated feature for the streamer, Deadline<\/a> is reporting.<\/p>\n

The filmmaker, who’s also nominated for the Best Animated Feature Oscar for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio<\/em><\/strong>, will adapt The Buried Giant<\/strong><\/em>. The upcoming movie will be based on the fantasy novel by Nobel Prize-winning British writer Kazuo Ishiguro. The book was published in 2015, 10 years after Ishiguro’s last book.<\/p>\n

The novel follows an elderly Briton couple, Axl and Beatrice, who are living in a fictional post-Arthurian England. However, no one is able to retain long-term memories.<\/p>\n

Besides helming the film, del Toro will also produce the feature, as well as co-write the script with Matilda the Musical<\/em><\/strong> scribe Dennis Kelly. As with Guillermo del Toro\u2019s Pinocchio<\/em><\/strong>, ShadowMachine’s stop motion studio will serve as the production’s home base.<\/p>\n

Netflix Film Chairman Scott Stuber was interested in working on another big animated feature with the director after the acclaim that Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio<\/em><\/strong> received.<\/p>\n

“Guillermo del Toro is a visionary filmmaker and master of his craft,” Stuber said. “We couldn’t be more proud of the prestigious recognition for his Pinocchio<\/em><\/strong>, and we’re pleased to continue our creative partnership as he develops his next project with Netflix.”<\/p>\n

Del Toro also commented on his next collaboration with the streamer. “The Buried Giant<\/em><\/strong> continues my animation partnership with Netflix and our pursuit of stop-motion as a medium to tell complex stories and build limitless worlds. It is a great honor and greater responsibility for me to direct this screenplay which Dennis Kelly and I are adapting from Kazuo Ishiguro’s profound and imaginative novel.”<\/p>\n

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio<\/em><\/strong>, which was released in December, spent a month in the streamer’s top 10 English films list in 92 countries. The drama was viewed by more than 50 million views in its first 28 days.<\/p>\n

The filmmaker is also nominated for Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Picture by the Producers Guild of America (PGA). The ceremony will be held tomorrow at The Beverly Hilton.<\/p>\n
