The most tender films that resonate with their viewers are those that speak to the human condition in the most enlightened \u2013 and equally fun – ways. One of this year’s most heartfelt, amusing movies that is the upcoming sports comedy, Champions<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The film follows its protagonist, basketball coach Marcus, who’s initially emotionally distant. But he soon goes through a tremendous evolution that teaches him how to genuinely connect with his players and the people who support their team.<\/p>\n

Champions<\/em><\/strong> was helmed by Bobby Farrelly of the Farrelly brothers [There’s Something About Mary<\/strong><\/em>, Dumb and Dumber To<\/i><\/strong>], in his solo directorial debut. The upcoming comedy, which is an English-language remake of the Goya Award-winning 2018 Spanish movie of the same name, was written by Mark Rizzo.<\/p>\n

Cheech Marin generously took the time recently to talk about starring in\u00a0Champions<\/em><\/strong> during an exclusive interview over Zoom. You can watch the videos here, and read below for an official summary and where to watch the film.<\/p>\n

Champions<\/em><\/strong> follows Marcus [Woody Harrelson, who also served as an executive producer on the movie], a temperamental, former minor-league basketball coach who’s on his way to coach in the NBA. However, he soon finds himself in legal trouble, and as a result, must satisfy a community service requirement.<\/p>\n

So Marcus is ordered to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities, who are known as the Friends. Under the guidance of Julio [Marin], the manager of the local rec center where the Friends practice, Marcus soon realizes that despite his doubts, the team can go further than they ever imagined – which includes competing for a spot in the Special Olympics.<\/p>\n

Focus Features will release Champions<\/strong><\/em> in<\/span> theaters this Friday, March 10.<\/p>\n
