Following its successful premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, Searchlight Pictures has set a July 14th release date for the ensemble musical comedy, \u201cTheater Camp<\/strong>\u201d which it acquired out of the 2023 Sundance Film Festival for around $8M with a theatrical guarantee.<\/p>\n

The feature will tell the story of an upstate New York-based camp run by a staff packed with a variety of personalities, who find themselves in a\u00a0predicament after their fearless leader falls into a coma. With the baton passing to the owner\u2019s dumb and self-obsessed son in her absence, the employees will need to come together to pull off their summer\u2019s production without a hitch.<\/p>\n

Taking a stab at all the eccentricities that make a summer filled with auditions, rehearsals, and performances a memorable experience, directors Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman are bringing audiences a comedy mockumentary style.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Co-penned by Lieberman and Gordon along with Noah Galvin (“The Good Doctor<\/strong>“) and Ben Platt (“Dear Evan Hansen<\/strong>“), the latter three will also star. Filling out the ensemble cast will be YouTube star Jimmy Tarto, Ayo Edebiri (“Big Mouth<\/strong>“), Patti Harrison (“Shrill<\/strong>“), Caroline Aaron (“Sleepless in Seattle<\/strong>“), Alan Kim (“Minari<\/strong>“), Nathan Lee Graham (“Zoolander<\/strong>“), Amy Sedaris (“The Mandalorian<\/strong>“), Owen Thiele, Bailee Bonick, Donovan Colan, Kyndra Sanchez, Vivienne Sachs, Quinn Titcomb, and Alexander Bello.<\/p>\n

Along with penning the script, Galvin, Gordon, Platt, Lieberman, and Mark Sonnenblick composed the film\u2019s original score. Galvin, Gordon, Lieberman, and Platt also serve as producers alongside Will Ferrell, Ryan Heller, Erik Feig, Samie Kim Falvey, Maria Zuckerman, Julia Hammer, and Jessica Elbaum.<\/p>\n

Ben Platt won a Tony Award for originating the title role in Dear Evan Hansen, which he later reprised in the 2021 film adaption.
