Chris Carter, who originated the series, said this week that Ryan Coogler is set to take over as director.<\/p>\n<p>The surprising news came in a podcast interview for<em> On the Coast With Gloria Macarenko,<\/em> when Carter reflected \u201cWe\u2019re so steeped in conspiracies now. <em><strong>The X-Files<\/strong><\/em> dealt with a central conspiracy, but now the world is so full of conspiracies that I think it would be a different show. \u2026\u00a0 Actually, I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount <strong>The X-Files<\/strong> with a diverse cast. The first <em><strong>Black Panther<\/strong><\/em> film, released in 2018, set box-office records to become the highest-grossing film by an African American director.\u00a0 The 36-year old Coogler made his feature debut in 2013, with the independent film <em><strong>Fruitvale Station<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2021, the director\u2019s production company, Proximity, inked a five-year deal to develop programming for Disney\u2019s channels and streaming services, increasing the likelihood that Coogler might be involved in <strong>The X-Files<\/strong> project, moving forward. Neither Disney nor Coogler have yet commented on the story.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The X-Files<\/strong><\/em> themselves have undergone changes over the years.
