The horror of The Conjuring<\/em><\/strong><\/a> universe is expanding to television, as Warner Bros. Discovery is developing a drama series based on the iconic film franchise. The show will debut on the media\/entertainment company’s streaming service Max, the soon-to-be-rebranded version of HBO Max, according to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The producer of the acclaimed movie series, Peter Safran will executive produce the as-of-now untitled television adaptation. James Wan, who directed the first two entries in The Conjuring<\/em><\/strong> film trilogy, and produced seven of the eight films in the franchise, is also in talks to serve as an executive producer on the show.<\/p>\n

Safran is also the new co-head of WBD’s DC Studios, and is currently under an overall deal with Warner Bros. He additionally oversees DC Comics properties for the Warner Bros. Discovery alongside James Gunn.<\/p>\n

The two assumed their new roles on November 1 and report to Warner Bros. Discovery president and CEO, David Zaslav. They work closely with Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, co-chairpersons and CEOs of Warner Bros. Film Group. In addition to producing The Conjuring<\/strong><\/em>, Safran also produced the highest-grossing DC movie of all time, Aquaman<\/em><\/strong>, which Wan also helmed; the superhero film earned $1.15 billion at the box office.<\/p>\n

Warner Bros. Television will produce the Conjuring<\/em><\/strong> show with Safran’s The Safran Co., which has an overall deal with the studio. Wan’s Atomic Monster is also serving as a producer on the project. WB’s film division distributes the movies, which are produced by New Line Cinema.<\/p>\n

Warner Bros. Discovery has not yer announced who will star in or write the television series. No plot details have been released about the project yet, either. Max has only said that the small screen adaptation will “continue the story established in the feature films.”<\/p>\n

The three Conjuring<\/em><\/strong> movies focus on demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga), who investigate and document paranormal events. The franchise also includes the Annabelle<\/em><\/strong> trilogy; The Nun<\/em><\/strong> and its upcoming sequel, which is scheduled to be released on September 8; and The Curse of La Llorona<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The eight films have grossed more than $2 billion at the box office worldwide. The movie series has become one of the biggest horror properties in Hollywood.<\/p>\n

The Conjuring<\/em><\/strong> show is one of several announcements Warner Bros. Discovery made today at a press event on the Warner Bros. lot in Los Angeles. During the event, Warner Bros. Discovery unveiled the Max streaming service and its upcoming programming. Those television series include a second Big Bang Theory<\/em><\/strong> spinoff, a Harry Potter<\/em><\/strong> show and another Game of Thrones<\/em><\/strong> prequel.<\/p>\n
