In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esquire.com\/entertainment\/movies\/a43728671\/damon-lindelof-star-wars\/\"><em>Esquire<\/em><\/a>, he declared flatly \u201cI was in more than talks to join the <em><strong>Star Wars<\/strong><\/em> universe. I joined the <em><strong>Star Wars<\/strong><\/em> universe and was asked to leave.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p>In March, it had been reported that Steven Knight of <strong><em>Peaky Blinders<\/em><\/strong> fame would be working on the script instead of Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. The duo had started drafting a script in July of 2022 as the next installment after <em><strong>Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker<\/strong><\/em>, which had been released in 2019.<br \/><br \/>Not sounding like a leftover, Lindelof said in the <em>Esquire<\/em> interview that he would definitely rejoin the project if invited: \u201cWill I get back in line outside the club and try to get back in again? Absolutely.\u201d The spurned screenwriter added that he\u2019d been introduced to cinema by the original <em><strong>Star Wars<\/strong><\/em> film, which was the first movie he ever saw as a kid.<br \/><br \/>Earlier in April, Lucasfilm\u2019s top honcho Kathleen Kennedy broke the news at the <em><strong>Star Wars<\/strong><\/em> Celebration in London that three new films were in the works for the franchise. Lindelof had conceived his script to take place 60 years after the <em><strong>Skywalker<\/strong> <\/em>episode, with Helen Mirren being eyed for the role played by Daisy Ridley.
