A24 has acquired the domestic distribution rights for the upcoming romantic comedy film, We Live in Time<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, from its production company, Studiocanal, Deadline<\/a> is reporting. The movie, which stars Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, is currently hooting in London.<\/p>\n

The rom-com is being directed by acclaimed helmer, John Crowley. The upcoming project is reuniting the filmmaker with Garfield; the two previously worked together on the actor’s break-out role in the 2007 drama film Boy A<\/em><\/strong>, for which they both won BAFTAs.<\/p>\n

Benedict Cumberbatch is serving as an executive producer on We Live in Time<\/em><\/strong> for his London-based production company, SunnyMarch. Studiocanal is also producing the movie with BAFTA winning partners SunnyMarch: Leah Clarke, Adam Ackland with Guy Heeley. Film4 is co-financing the project with Studiocanal.<\/p>\n

The rom-com was written Olivier award-winning playwright and screenwriter Nick Payne. Studiocanal developed the script for We Live in Time<\/em><\/strong>. However, the production company and the filmmakers haven’t publicly shared the plot details for the movie. But the project is being described as a funny, deeply moving and immersive love story.<\/p>\n

Besides Pugh and Garfield, Adam James is the only other cast member who’s currently attached to We Live In Time<\/em><\/strong>. James is known for appearing on the psychological thriller television series, You<\/em><\/strong>; the police procedural thriller television show, The Suspect<\/em><\/strong>; and the black comedy-drama limited series, I May Destroy You<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

EVP Global Production Ron Halpern and SVP Global Production Joe Naftalin are overseeing We Live in Time<\/strong><\/em> for Studiocanal. Head of US and Digital Sales Aska Yamaguchi and Head of Legal and Business Affairs Sophie Leuthreau of Studiocanal negotiated the deal with A24.<\/p>\n

A24 will distribute the film in North America theaters. A release date has not yet been confirmed, but We Live in Time<\/strong><\/em> is expected to be unveiled sometime next year.<\/p>\n

Besides Boy A<\/em><\/strong>, Crowley is also known for directing Saoirse Ronan in the 2015 Oscar-nominated epic movie, Brooklyn<\/em><\/strong>. He also helmed the screen adaptation of The Goldfinch<\/strong><\/em>, which was released in 2019 and starred Ansel Elgort.<\/p>\n

After appearing in Boy A<\/strong><\/em>, Garfield went on to star in such\u00a0 films as The Social Network<\/strong><\/em>, The Amazing Spider-Man<\/em><\/strong> and its sequel, The Eyes of Tammy Faye<\/b><\/i>, Hacksaw Ridge<\/strong><\/em> and Tick, Tick\u2026 Boom!<\/strong><\/em> He received Academy Award nominations for Best Actor for the latter two movies.<\/p>\n

Pugh broke out in her trio of 2019 films – Fighting for My Family<\/strong><\/em>, Midsommar<\/strong><\/em> and her Oscar-nominated performance in Little Women<\/strong><\/em>. She has since starred in Black Widow<\/em><\/strong>, Don’t Worry Darling<\/strong><\/em> and A Good Person<\/strong><\/em>. She’ll next appear in two anticipated movies that will be released later this year – Oppenheimer<\/em><\/strong> and Dune Part II<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Garfield and Pugh first garnered attention together when they co-presented a trophy at the 95th Academy Awards in March. It was revealed shortly afterward that they are in negotiations to star together in We Live in Time<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Pugh later confirmed to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show<\/em><\/strong> a week after the awards ceremony that she and Garfield “are doing a movie together. Don’t worry, that’s not a lie. We are doing a movie together. I met him the day before in rehearsals and we instantly got along…It was great!”<\/p>\n

The BAFTA-nominated actress added that things were already in motion by the time they were chosen to walk the stage together at the Oscars. “You know what’s crazy is that\u2026they didn’t know we were doing a movie together. Well, I don’t think they did,” she shared. “But this was, I think, a bit of an accident. Which is even weirder!”<\/p>\n
