Director Liesl Tommy makes her feature film debut with\u00a0Respect<\/i>. Tommy is the first Black woman ever nominated for a Tony award for Best Direction of a Play in 2016 for\u00a0Eclipsed,\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0is an\u00a0<\/i>Associate Artist at the Berkeley Rep and an Artist Trustee with the Sundance Institute\u2019s Board of Trustees.\u00a0With a story by Callie Khouri\u00a0(Oscar\u00ae\u00a0winner\u00a0for Writing,\u00a0Thelma & Louise<\/i>) and\u00a0Tracey Scott Wilson, and screenplay written by Tracey Scott Wilson.\u00a0Wilson and Tommy have worked together creatively since the 2009 play\u00a0The Good Negro<\/i>\u00a0written by Wilson, directed by Tommy at The Public Theatre. Wilson was a writer on FX\u2019s\u00a0The Americans<\/i>\u00a0which garnered her a Peabody Award as well as Emmy\u00ae and WGA Award nominations.<\/p>\n
