All Rights Reserved.<\/p>\n<p>Renowned Northern Ireland filmmaker Sir <a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?s=Kenneth+Branagh\">Kenneth Branagh<\/a> has signed on to direct a new live-action <strong><em>Gargoyles<\/em><\/strong> movie, the <a href=\"https:\/\/m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk\/entertainment\/film-tv\/belfast-director-sir-kenneth-branagh-to-bring-gargoyles-revamp-to-big-screen\/a586677868.html\">Belfast Telegraph<\/a> is reporting. The upcoming feature film will be based on the animated 1990s television series of the same name.<\/p>\n<p>The live-action movie has been widely anticipated since the original show concluded. A concept was originally created for a feature film adaptation, but was latter scrapped, after the series concluded. Then in 2011, the writing team of David Elliot and Paul Lovett (<em><strong>G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra<\/strong><\/em>) was hired to pen a new script for the movie.<\/p>\n<p>The <em><strong>Gargoyles<\/strong><\/em> series, which premiered in 1994, ran for three seasons, with a total of 78 episodes. The show was renamed <strong><em>Gargoyles: The Goliath Chronicles<\/em><\/strong> in its final season.<\/p>\n<div class=\"beltel-1d70522a_marginleft5 beltel-1d70522a_marginright5 beltel-26838ee5_paddingleft0 beltel-26838ee5_paddingright0 beltel-804a7bc3_root\" data-testid=\"article-body\">\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\">The television series featured a clan of the titular gargoyles as heroes who were transplanted from the 10th century to the modern day. Back in the middle ages, most of the clan was killed. However, Goliath and a small group of other gargoyles are cursed to be frozen in stone until their castle somehow reaches above the clouds.<\/p>\n<div id=\"ad_articlerectangle-b1\" class=\"beltel-44d192a3_root ad ad--medium_rectangle_outstream\" data-ad=\"articlerectangle\" data-testid=\"adslot-articlerectangle\" data-google-query-id=\"CLKFrYXaloADFT8AaAgd1YoOSw\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_8216\/belfasttelegraph\/entertainment\/film-tv_2__container__\">\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\">Goliath and his comrades awaken in the twentieth century, after the wealthy David Xanatos buys the castle. He has it transported to, and reconstructed atop, his New York City skyscraper.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\">The gargoyles protect the city and its people. However, they often deal with various supernatural challenges and clash with Xanatos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\">The show&#8217;s voice cast included Keith David (<strong><em>They Live<\/em><\/strong>) as the lead Goliath. David was joined by the late Ed Asner (<strong><em>Up<\/em><\/strong>) as Hudson, and Jonathan Frakes (<strong><em>Star Trek: The Next Generation<\/em><\/strong>) as Xanatos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\">Branagh is one of a growing list of renowned directors who have helmed Disney&#8217;s live-action adaptations. Robert Zemeckis directed last year&#8217;s <em><strong>Pinocchio<\/strong><\/em>. Guy Ritchie helmed 2019&#8217;s <strong><em>Aladdin<\/em><\/strong>, and has signed on to direct its sequel, as well as the live-action <strong><em>Hercules<\/em><\/strong>. Branagh previously helmed the 2015 live-action adaptation of <strong><i>Cinderella<\/i><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\">Besides signing on to direct <em><strong>Gargoyles<\/strong><\/em>, the Oscar-winning <em><strong>Belfast<\/strong><\/em> scribe also joined his fellow writers on the picket line in a strike that&#8217;s set to spark an industry-wide shut-down. It comes after the union which represents approximately 160,000 members of the industry, and Hollywood studios failed to reach an agreement. The scribes are seeking a fairer split of profits and increased safeguarding around AI rights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\">Members of the Screen Actors Guild \u2013 American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) \u2013 previously voted\u00a0 to authorize a strike if a new contract with major studios, streamers and production companies couldn&#8217;t be reached. Nearly 98% of the 65,000 members who cast votes were in favor of the strike.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\">The actors&#8217; strike comes amid the ongoing strike by more than 11,000 members of the Writers Guild of America (WGA), who began industrial action on May 2. It is the first time in more than 60 years that both unions have been on strike simultaneously.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\">Upcoming award shows, premieres, events and film festivals around the world, including the Toronto and Venice Film Festivals, and the 75th Emmys are likely to go ahead without participation from major talent, if at all.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\">Among the productions that may also be affected by the strike action is <em><strong>Deadpool 3<\/strong><\/em>, which is set to star Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
