Netflix has decided it will no longer distribute the upcoming horror movie The Bride<\/strong><\/em>, World of Reel<\/a> is reporting. The drama is serving as a remake of the 1935 sci-fi-horror film Bride of Frankenstein<\/em><\/strong>, which was a sequel to the 1931 feature Frankenstein<\/strong><\/em>. The latter famously starred Boris Karloff as the titular character’s Monster.<\/p>\n

Christian Bale is attached to star in The Bride<\/strong><\/em>. The movie will reunite the Oscar-winning actor with his Dark Knight<\/strong><\/em> co-star, Maggie Gyllenhaal. The latter is currently attached to direct the upcoming genre feature.<\/p>\n

In addition to Bale, Gyllenhaal’s husband, Peter Sarsgaard, is still still attached to star in The Bride<\/em><\/strong>. Bale’s fellow Academy Award-winner, Penelope Cruz, has also been cast in the drama.<\/p>\n

Netflix was originally set to distribute The Bride<\/em><\/strong>, but with the company stepping aside from the feature, the project will be shopped to other studios. The budget being sought for the movie by whichever studio picks it up is approximately $80 million.<\/p>\n

The Bride<\/em><\/strong> is the latest feature to see its production get delayed as a result of the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA<\/span> strikes. The drama was originally scheduled to start production during the first quarter of 2024. As a result, the film currently doesn’t have a scheduled release date.<\/p>\n

According to World of Reel, “Netflix used the strikes to get rid of some projects including Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride<\/strong><\/em> which will now be shopped elsewhere. Penelope Cruz had the offer for The Bride and Christian Bale was attached as Doctor Frankenstein.<\/p>\n

The Bride<\/strong><\/em> will mark Gylenhaal’s second feature film directorial effort. She previously wrote and helmed the psychological drama The Lost Daughter<\/em><\/strong>, which starred Oscar-winner Olivia Colman. The movie was released on Netflix in 2021 to critical acclaim.<\/p>\n

It received three Academy Award nominations, and Gylenhaal won Best Screenplay honors at the Venice Film Festival.<\/p>\n
