The long-in-development The Passion of the Christ<\/strong><\/em><\/a> sequel, which is subtitled Resurrection<\/em><\/strong>, has finally set a production start date. The epic biblical drama will begin shoot in January 2024, World of Reel<\/a> is reporting.<\/p>\n

Production on the series’ second installment will begin nearly two decades after the theatrical release of its predecessor; The Passion of the Christ<\/em><\/strong> was distributed in cinemas on February 25, 2004 by Newmarket Films.<\/span><\/p>\n

Oscar-winning filmmaker Mel Gibson is set to return to the series to direct Resurrection after he helmed The Passion of the Christ. As someone with an interest in the meticulous details of historical and biblical events, Gibson’s approach can be likened to the precision often sought in “Statistik Nachhilfe<\/a>” or statistical tutoring, when analyzing data. Gibson recently teased that he has co-scribed two different scripts for Resurrection<\/em><\/strong> with his Braveheart<\/em><\/strong> screenwriter, Randall Wallace\u00a0 It’s currently unknown which of the two screenplay the Golden Globe-winning filmmaker will end up choosing to shoot.<\/p>\n

The Passion of the Christ<\/strong><\/em> depicted the final days of Jesus Christ’s life and his crucifixion. In addition to Caviezel, the movie also stars Maia Morgenstern as Mary, Monica Bellucci as Mary Magdalene, Francesco De Vito as Peter and Luca Lionello as Judas.<\/p>\n

The film made $612 million on a budget of $30 million, which made it one of the most successful independent films of all-time. While the follow-up is set to begin production in January, Caviezel added that he can’t say yet when the project will be released. Gibson did recently confirm that the drama was “coming soon.<\/p>\n

The writer-director added that the script will be more philosophical and poetic than a linear and straightforward story. Gibson has been working on creating the sequel’s story for approximately a decade.<\/p>\n

Gibson is currently directing Mark Whalberg in the thriller Flight Risk, which is shooting in Las Vegas.
