This year\u2019s program features new titles from renowned auteurs and emerging directors including opening night film and critically-acclaimed Sundance hit &#8220;<strong>Fair Play<\/strong>&#8221;\u00a0directed by Chloe Domont, Steve Buscemi\u2019s &#8220;<i><strong>The Listener<\/strong>,&#8221;<\/i>\u00a0&#8220;<i><strong>The Kill Room<\/strong>&#8220;<\/i> directed by Nicol Paone and starring Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson.\u00a0&#8220;<i><strong>The New Boy<\/strong>&#8220;<\/i> directed by Warwick Thornton and starring Cate Blanchett.\u00a0Oscar-nominated filmmaker Pawo Choyning Dorji\u2019s &#8220;<i><strong>The Monk and the Gun<\/strong>,&#8221;<\/i>\u00a0Oscar-nominee Bill Plympton\u2019s &#8220;<i><strong>Slide<\/strong>,&#8221;\u00a0<\/i>and anticipated documentaries including Wim Wenders\u2019 &#8220;<i><strong>Anselm<\/strong>,&#8221;<\/i>\u00a0Oscar-winner Roger Ross Williams\u2019 &#8220;<i><strong>Stamped from the Beginning<\/strong>,&#8221;<\/i>\u00a0Karen O&#8217;Connor, Miri Navasky and Maeve O\u2019Boyle\u2019s &#8220;<i><strong>Joan Baez I Am Noise<\/strong>,&#8221;<\/i>\u00a0Oscar-nominated director Karim Amer\u2019s &#8220;<i><strong>Defiant<\/strong>,&#8221;<\/i>\u00a0Madeleine Gavin\u2019s &#8220;<i><strong>Beyond Utopia<\/strong>,&#8221;\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0Oliver English\u2019s &#8220;<i><strong>Feeding Tomorrow<\/strong>&#8221;\u00a0<\/i>and a special 40th anniversary screening of &#8220;<strong>W<\/strong><i><strong>hen The Mountains Tremble<\/strong>&#8220;<\/i> by Saugerties-based master documentarian Pamela Yates. The shorts programs includes works from auteurs Joe Brewster and Mich\u00e8le Stephenson with &#8220;<strong><i>Black Girls Play<\/i><\/strong>,&#8221;\u00a0Ramin Bahrani with &#8220;<strong><i>If Dreams Were Lightning<\/i><\/strong>,&#8221;\u00a0Joan Churchill with &#8220;<i><strong>Who Tells the Story?<\/strong>&#8220;<\/i> and Yann Mounir Demange with &#8220;<i><strong>Dammi<\/strong>&#8221;\u00a0<\/i>starring Riz Ahmed.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s <b>Lifetime Achievement Award<\/b> will be awarded to renowned filmmaker <b>James Ivory<\/b>. Ivory was the directing partner with the legendary producer <b>Ismail Merchant<\/b>, in their independent company Merchant Ivory Productions. In the forty eight years they worked together as a team, usually accompanied by the writer and novelist <b>Ruth Prawer Jhabvala<\/b>, they created 28 feature films including the classics <b><i>A Room With a View<\/i><\/b>, <b><i>Maurice<\/i><\/b>, <b><i>Howards End<\/i><\/b> and <b><i>The Remains of the Day<\/i><\/b>. Ivory also wrote the screenplay for <b><i>Call Me By Your Name<\/i><\/b>, for which he received an Academy Award in 2018. A tribute screening of Ivory\u2019s film <b><i>The City of Your Final Destination<\/i><\/b>, will take place on Saturday, September 30, followed by a conversation with Ivory and novelist Peter Cameron.<\/p>\n<p>Filmmakers, talent and other luminaries expected to attend this year\u2019s edition of the festival include James Ivory, Steve Buscemi, Michael Imperioli, Bill Plympton, Ramin Bahrani, Matthew Modine, Brittany Snow, Ted Hope, Vanessa Hope, Barbara Kopple, Sheila Nevins, Kiefer Sutherland, The Zombies, Ondi Timoner, Lori Singer, Tim Blake Nelson and more.<\/p>\n<p>The Woodstock Film Festival is committed to supporting local film production in New York\u2019s Hudson Valley, and to nurturing and supporting emerging and established filmmakers worldwide by sharing their creative voices to promote culture, diversity, community, educational opportunities and economic growth in its community. 12 of the films in this year\u2019s robust program are produced or directed primarily in the region by filmmakers from the Hudson Valley creative community.<\/p>\n<p><b>Meira Blaustein<\/b>, Woodstock Film Festival Co-Founder and Executive Director, said, \u201cWe are thrilled to continue our tradition of bringing together world class talent from our own Hudson Valley community and extraordinary works of cinema from all over the world. The two pioneering women will discuss their impactful careers, the state of documentary filmmaking and their current and future projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 <b>Actors Who Direct<\/b> with <b>Brittany Snow<\/b>, first-time director of <b><i>Parachute<\/i><\/b>; <b>Steve Buscemi<\/b>, director of <b><i>The Listener<\/i><\/b>; <b>Matthew Modine<\/b>, director of<b><i> I Am What You Imagine<\/i><\/b>, and moderated by <b>Mary Stuart Masterson<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 <b>The Picket Line: A Road to Pay Equity and Sustainability<\/b>, \u00a0presented by <b>New York Women in Film &amp; <b>Brittany Snow<\/b>\u2019s directorial debut <b><i>Parachute<\/i><\/b>; <b><i>I Used to Be Funny<\/i><\/b> by <b>Ally Pankiw<\/b> and starring <b>Rachel Sennot<\/b>; and <b><i>Irena\u2019s Vow<\/i><\/b> by <b>Louise Archambault<\/b>, adapted from the hit Broadway play of the same name. Highlights of the documentary section directed by women include the 40th anniversary screening of <b><i>When The Mountains Tremble<\/i><\/b> by <b>Pamela Yates<\/b>, <b><i>Beyond Utopia<\/i><\/b> by <b>Madeleine Gavin<\/b>, <b><i>The New Americans: Gaming A Revolution<\/i><\/b> by <b>Ondi Timoner<\/b>; <b><i>Razing Liberty Square<\/i><\/b> by Oscar\u00ae-nominated filmmaker <b>Katja Esson<\/b>; and<b><i> Finding the Money<\/i><\/b> by <b>Maren Poitras<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Honoring its local and diverse musical legacy, the Woodstock Film Festival will screen documentaries featuring musicians including, <b><i>Joan Baez I Am A Noise<\/i><\/b> by <b>Miri Navasky<\/b>, <b>Maeve O\u2019Boyle<\/b> and <b>Karen O\u2019Connor<\/b>, <b><i>The Tuba Thieves<\/i><\/b> by <b>Alison O\u2019Daniel<\/b> and <b><i>With Peter Bradley<\/i><\/b> by <b>Alex Rappoport<\/b>. Feature films <b><i>A Song Film by Kishi Bashi:\u00a0Omoiyari<\/i><\/b>\u00a0and <b><i>Hung Up on a Dream: The Zombies Documentary<\/i><\/b> by <b>Robert Schwartzman<\/b> will have adjacent concerts with their respective film participants at the newly-renovated Bearsville Theater. Additionally, the feature film <b><i>Texas Music Revolution<\/i><\/b> by <b>Troy Paff<\/b> will have an accompanying concert with <b>Kiefer Sutherland<\/b> at the Levon Helm Barn.<\/p>\n<p>In continuation with Woodstock Film Festival\u2019s commitment to sustainability and addressing the urgency of the climate crisis, the festival has programmed a number of films that reimagine solutions for current and future issues. Highlights include: <b><i>Food &amp; Country<\/i><\/b> by <b>Laura Gabbert<\/b>; <b><i>Feeding Tomorrow<\/i><\/b> by <b>Oliver English<\/b>; <b><i>Razing Liberty Square<\/i><\/b> by <b>Katja Esson<\/b> and <b><i>Finding the Money<\/i><\/b> by <b>Maren Poitras<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Woodstock Film Festival has partnered with White Feather Farm, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organic farm dedicated to connecting community, culture and land, to host a community gathering following the screening of <b><i>Feeding Tomorrow<\/i><\/b>. The goal of the event, with local food and spirits, is to raise money for the Small Farm Resilience Fund in support of multiple small scale farmers in the Hudson Valley.
