It\u2019s official that director David Robert Mitchell and actress Maika Monroe are reuniting on \u201cThey Follow<\/strong>,\u201d a sequel to the 2014 cult horror hit, \u201cIt Follows<\/strong>\u201d Neon, the Oscar-winning studio behind \u201cParasite,\u201d will co-produce the movie and release it domestically.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2014 original film was told as a young woman who, after having sex with her boyfriend for the first time, learns she will now be hunted by a mysterious entity. The only way to temporarily stave off death is to pass the curse to someone else, who will become next on the list followed by the entity.<\/p>\n

The film grossed $23.3 million globally on a budget of around $1.3 million.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the years, talent behind “It Follows<\/strong>” has discussed a sequel, with Neon\u2019s Tom Quinn suggested that it could involve people turning the tables on the entity and following it to its source. No concrete plot details of “They Follow<\/strong>“<\/i> have been revealed yet.<\/p>\n

Filming is expected to take place early next year with Mitchell, Jake Weiner, Chris Bender, David Kaplan, Erik Rommesmo, Rebecca Green and Laura Smith producing.<\/p>\n

Monroe recently wrapped production on Oz Perkins\u2019\u00a0\u201cLonglegs<\/strong>,\u201d which\u00a0co-stars Nicolas Cage. Neon will release that film in 2024.<\/p>\n

Neon\u2019s upcoming releases include Michael Mann\u2019s \u201cFerrari<\/strong>,\u201d which stars Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz, and Alice Rohrwacher\u2019s\u00a0\u201cLa Chimera<\/strong>,\u201d which features Josh O\u2019Connor. It recently released the Palme d\u2019Or winner\u00a0Justine Triet\u2019s \u201cAnatomy of a Fall<\/strong>,\u201d which is expected to be an Oscars contender.<\/p>\n

The project is being introduced to buyers at AFM this week.<\/p>\n
