It is about time to ask \u201cMove over, Spider-Man\u201d\u2026there are female wall-crawlers and web-slingers in metropolitan cities. Sony Pictures<\/a> has finally released a trailer for a highly anticipated film, \u201cMadame Web<\/strong>,\u201d starring Dakota Johnson<\/a> and Sydney Sweeney<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Madame Web<\/strong>” tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing’s most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures including Sweeney\u2019s Julia Carpenter, who later takes on the mantle of Spider-Woman in the comics \u2014 to understand her past and survive the deadly present.<\/p>\n

The cast also includes Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, Adam Scott, Celeste O\u2019Connor, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps and Zosia Mamet.<\/p>\n

The trailer, set to Billie Eilish’s hit song “bury a friend,” meets Cassandra as she attempts to protect a trio of teenagers from a masked villain who looks suspiciously like Spider-Man. When the villain stabs Cassandra with a knife, she is brought back to the beginning of the encounter.<\/p>\n

After the huge success of Sony Pictures Animation\u2019s \u201cSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,\u201d Audiences are still craving for all things from the spider-verse. \u201cMadame Web<\/strong>\u201d is the latest chapter of Sony’s universe of Marvel Characters, following the releases of Tom Hardy\u2019s \u201cVenom<\/strong>\u201d (2018), \u201cVenom: Let There Be Carnage<\/strong>\u201d (2021) and Jared Leto\u2019s \u201cMorbius<\/strong>\u201d (2022).<\/p>\n

Up next for Sony is a third installment of \u201cVenom<\/strong>\u201d movie slated for Nov. 8, 2024, and \u201cKraven the Hunter<\/strong>,\u201d starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, on Aug. 30, 2024. \u201cMadame Web<\/strong>\u201d is Sony\u2019s first comic book adaptation that features a woman in the lead role.<\/p>\n

S.J. Clarkson, who helmed Marvel\u2019s \u201cJessica Jones<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cThe Defenders<\/strong>,” in the past\u00a0directs \u201cMadame Web<\/strong>\u201d from a screenplay she co-wrote with Claire Parker.
