The Sundance Favorite \u201cPast Lives<\/strong>\u201d took the top prize at the Gotham Awards<\/a> on Monday night, taking home the top prize for best feature. Meanwhile, acting honors were won by Charles Melton for his supporting performance in Todd Haynes\u2019 \u201cMay December<\/strong>\u201d and lily Gladstone\u00a0for her lead performance in \u201cThe Unknown Country<\/strong>,\u201d she was also phenomenal on \u201cKillers of the Flower Moon<\/strong>.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Writer-director Celine Song went on podium and accepted the award, \u201cThank you, Gotham, for this award. It\u2019s such an honor. It really means the world to receive it with my debut set in New York City, a city I live in and love deeply,\u201d Song thanked her cast and crew along with producers of distribution company A24.<\/p>\n

Sundance winning film, \u201cA Thousand and One<\/strong>\u201d director A.V.Rockwell picked up the breakthrough director award.<\/p>\n

Director Andrew Haigh\u2019s metaphysical gay romance \u201cAll of Us Strangers<\/strong>\u201d was the leader of the Gothams field heading into the ceremony, received four nominations across all categories. Celine Song\u2019s \u201cPast Lives<\/strong>\u201d and A.V. Rockwell\u2019s \u201cA Thousand and One<\/strong>\u201d followed with three nominations each.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although the Gothams are known to recognize independent films, the Gotham Film and Media Institute removed its $35 million budget cap requirement this year for potential nominees. Even though most contenders are still indie or arthouse films, but the bigger production like \u201cBarbie\u201d was also in the race.<\/p>\n
