Plans are moving forward for a live-action film adaptation of My Hero Academia<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, the blockbuster manga\/anime series.

Legendary Entertainment, which acquired the rights five years ago, has signed on as producers, which will mark the English-language debut for filmmaker Shinsuke Sato. The screenplay will be written by Joby Harold, who has authored Army of the Dead<\/strong><\/em> and the Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/strong><\/em> series.

Harold told a Collider<\/em><\/a> interviewer this week that he is gung-ho about the project. He was quoted as saying: \u201cIt is something I\u2019m working on and loving working on. I\u2019m excited to do it and get it out there. It\u2019s a big one. I can speak to the fact that it is live-action and I think that\u2019s probably all I can speak to, but it\u2019s a big deal in my life. I\u2019m really enjoying it. It\u2019s amazing. It\u2019s an amazing opportunity and I\u2019m really excited about it.\u201d

My Hero Academia<\/strong><\/em> became a global phenomenon after its debut in 2014. The story is set in a world where nearly all the people enjoy a power called a \u201cquirk.<\/p>\r\n

\u201d However, a boy named Izuku Midoriya was born without this power, dashing his hopes of attending U.A. High school, which would put him on the fast track to become a superhero. Thanks to a chance encounter, though, the boy overcomes this disadvantage and starts living his dream.

Fans of the popular series got a treat in recent weeks when Crunchyroll included an OVA (original video animation) of My Hero Academia: UA Heroes Battle<\/strong><\/em> on its streaming service. Eight other OVA\u2019s from the series are also available there.<\/p>\r\n

Meanwhile, work continues in Japan on the manga version of the title, under the direction of Kohei Horikoshi, who created the popular series.<\/p>\r\n

In addition to his work on the live-action version, Joby Harold has also been hard at work on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters<\/strong><\/em>.<\/a>
