Funny Is Funny World Tour<\/strong><\/em>. The tour was one of the highest grossing of the year, according to Pollstar; it grossed $29.4 million over the course of 88 performances in arenas and theaters around the world.<\/p>\nThe Golden Globes ceremony has almost always been hosted by comedians in recent years. Koy’s hosting job comes as the ceremony is set to introduce two new categories, one of which recognizes comedy – Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television. Inaugural nominees in the category include Chris Rock, Wanda Sykes, Trevor Noah, Sarah Silverman, Ricky Gervais and Amy Schumer. The ceremony will also introduce a Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category.<\/p>\n
While discussing being named the host for next month’s Golden Globe ceremony, Koy said: “I’ve stepped onto a lot of stages around the world in my career, but this one is going to be extra special. I’m so excited to be hosting the Golden Globes this year. This is that moment where I get to make my Filipino family proud. Mahal Kita (Google it)!”<\/p>\n
Stated Golden Globes President Helen Hoehne also chimed in on the comedian hosting the ceremony: “We are thrilled to have Jo host the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards and bring his infectious energy and relatable humor to kick off Hollywood’s award season. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for the stars in the room and a global audience. We know Jo is bringing his A-game.”<\/p>\n
Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner, who are serving as showrunners and executive producers on the program, also chimed in on the performer’s hosting duties: “Jo’s genuine brand of comedy is sure to entertain our honorees in the room at the Beverly Hilton and viewers at home. We are excited to work with him to make this year’s show laugh-out-loud from beginning to end.”<\/p>\n
Koy is known for regularly selling out arenas around the world with an act that often highlights his most memorable family interactions. He has been working as a comic for nearly 30 years.<\/p>\n
Previously, the entertainer has released five top-rated specials via Comedy Central and Netflix. His most recent special, Jo Koy:<\/em> Live from the Los Angeles Forum<\/em><\/strong>, premiered on the latter last year.<\/p>\nKoy is also well known for bolstering up-and-coming comedians. He most notably did so with the 2020 Netflix special Jo Koy: In His Elements<\/strong><\/em>, which features a roster of Filipino American talent.<\/p>\n\n

Last year, Koy headlined a major studio film for the first time when he starred in the Universal Pictures holiday comedy, Easter Sunday<\/em><\/strong>. The movie is based on his personal experiences and stand-up.<\/p>\nThe actor has also starred in Disney’s Haunted Mansion<\/em><\/strong>, which was released thispast summer, and voiced the role of Bendo in Netflix’s The Monkey King<\/em><\/strong>. He will next be heard in the Paramount+ animated fantasy film, Tiger’s Apprentice<\/em><\/strong>, which is set to premiere on February 2.<\/p>\nWeiss and Kirshner are executive producing this year’s Golden Globes ceremony for White Cherry Entertainment. Weiss will direct the televised special.<\/p>\n
This year’s Golden Globes Awards ceremony is set to air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Sunday, January 7 at 8pm ET\/5 pm PT. Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers will have access to the three-hour broadcast via the live feed of their local CBS affiliate on the service, as well as on demand\/ Paramount+ Essential subscribers will have to access it on-demand the day after it airs.<\/p>\n
The 2024 ceremony also marks the Golden Globes’ debut on CBS. The switch in networks comes after the ceremony’s previous broadcaster, NBC, declined to renew its deal with the awards show. In recent years, the ceremony was embroiled in controversy surrounding the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the embattled organization that previously presented the Golden Globes.<\/p>\n
Dick Clark Productions has since took over the hosting and producing duties for next year’s Golden Globes ceremony. The show will be viewed in more than 200 countries and territories around the world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
