{"id":21304,"date":"2024-01-04T18:19:27","date_gmt":"2024-01-04T23:19:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=21304"},"modified":"2024-01-04T18:19:27","modified_gmt":"2024-01-04T23:19:27","slug":"bona-film-group-joins-tsg-in-deal-to-invest-in-avatar-and-deadpool-franchises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=21304","title":{"rendered":"China&#8217;s Bona Film Group Joins TSG to Invest in &#8216;Avatar&#8217; and &#8216;Deadpool&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>Bona Film Group, a studio based in China, has extended its deal with the U.S.-based <a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?s=TSG+Entertainment\">TSG Entertainment<\/a> Finance to invest in several Hollywood productions, including new titles in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0499549\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2\"><em><strong>Avatar<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/find\/?q=deadpool%20&amp;ref_=nv_sr_sm\"><em><strong>Deadpool<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>franchises.<br \/><br \/>The deal, which was inked on New Year\u2019s Eve, has been described as an extension of an arrangement Bona and TSG has had since 2015. Specific details about the terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.<br \/><br \/>Executives from both firms hailed the move. Bona\u2019s chair and CEO Yu Dong said \u201cWe are very excited to continue our eight-year partnership with TSG. Through this expanded venture, Bona will become a new participant via TSG in the <em><strong>Avatar<\/strong> <\/em>and <em><strong>Deadpool<\/strong> <\/em>franchise and continue our involvement in <em><strong>The Planet of The Apes<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Alien<\/strong> <\/em>franchise in addition to many other dynamic upcoming films.\u201d<br \/><br \/>And Chip Seelig, a managing partner of TSG Entertainment, said \u201cI am thrilled to continue our partnership with Bona and Yu Dong, one of our oldest and most important relationships in the film industry. The Chinese market provides us with rare opportunities, and we also hope to help further develop [it].\u201d<br \/><br \/>In the earlier deal, Bona agreed to provide $235 million to co-invest with TSG in a wide variety of films, including <em><strong>The Martian, Independence Day: Resurgence, The Greatest Showman, War for the Planet of the Apes, Miss Peregrine\u2019s Home for Peculiar Children, Alien: Covenant<\/strong><\/em>, and <em><strong>X-Men: Apocalypse<\/strong><\/em>. Most of these titles were distributed by 20th Century Fox.<br \/><br \/>The Bona-TSG deal is one of the few that has survived recent upheavals in Chinese- American film collaborations. Similar deals have become casualties of the trade and technology wars between the two countries. In 2018, Beijing effectively called a halt to many such projects, but Bona is one of the few studios that has continued.
