Julia Garner has been cast to headline the new Wolf Man<\/strong><\/em><\/a> remake from Blumhouse and Universal Pictures, Deadline<\/a> is reporting. The horror film will be released via Universal on Friday, October 25, 2024.<\/p>\n

Wolf Man<\/strong><\/em> will reunite the SAG Award-nominated actress with Christopher Abbott, whose casting was previously announced. The duo last starred together on screen in Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene<\/em><\/strong>, which marked Garner’s first professional acting role.<\/p>\n

Wolf Man<\/em><\/strong> will be directed by genre veteran Leigh Whannell, who garnered critical acclaim with his last helming effort, The Invisible Man<\/b><\/i>. The sci-fi horror movie is a reboot of the 1933 feature of the same name.<\/p>\n

The updated film was also a commercial success when it was released by Universal and Blumhouse in February 2020, mere weeks before the start of the COVID-19 lockdown. The drama, which relaunched the Universal monsterverse, grossed $144 million at the global box office<\/p>\n

Besides directing Wolf Man<\/em><\/strong>, Whannell also wrote the script with Corbett Tuck, as well as Dumb Money<\/em><\/strong> scribes Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo. The upcoming remake will feature Garner playing a mother whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.<\/p>\n

Blumhouse’s Jason Blum is producing the movie. Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are serving as executive producers on the film. Ryan Gosling, who’s also serving as an executive producer, was originally cast to star in the drama, but was replaced by Abbott last month. Wolf Man<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.<\/p>\n

Garner is a Golden Globe winner and three-time Primetime Emmy Award winner and\u00a0 for her portrayal of Ruth Langmore in the acclaimed Netflix crime drama series\u00a0Ozark<\/strong><\/em>. She has also received multiple nominations for her portrayal of the real life con artist Anna Delvey on the streamer’s drama miniseries, Inventing Anna<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As a film actress, Garner is an IFP Spirit Award nominee for her titular role in writer-director Kitty Green’s 2019 drama, The Assistant<\/em><\/strong>. The actress also received acclaim she reteamed with the filmmaker in her latest feature, The Royal Hotel<\/strong><\/em>. Garner also produced the latter movie through her production banner Alma Margo.<\/p>\n

The actress will next be seen as the female lead in the psychological thriller Apartment 7A<\/em><\/strong>. The horror film was co-penned and helmed by Natalie Erika James, and produced in part by John Krasinski and Michael Bay. The drama, which will serve as a prequel to 1968’s Rosemary’s Baby<\/i><\/strong>, will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.<\/p>\n

Garner<\/a> is also known for becoming acquainted with Universal during the rigorous audition process for the untitled Madonna biopic. The movie was ultimately shelved last year, however, before the Grammy-winning pop singer-songwriter launched her greatest hits tour.<\/p>\n

But Madonna has pledged she’ll eventually make the film someday. She even invited Julia Garner joined her onstage last month for a special appearance.<\/p>\n

In addition to Invisible Man<\/strong>, <\/em>Whannell also directed Insidious 3 <\/em><\/strong>and the sci-fi action movie Upgrade<\/strong><\/em>. All four of his helming efforts have been produced by Blumhouse. The filmmaker is also known for scribing the first three Saw<\/strong><\/em> features and first four Insidious<\/strong><\/em> movies.<\/p>\n
