{"id":21417,"date":"2024-01-11T19:19:40","date_gmt":"2024-01-12T00:19:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=21417"},"modified":"2024-01-11T19:19:40","modified_gmt":"2024-01-12T00:19:40","slug":"28-days-later-may-rise-from-the-crypt-in-28-years-later-sequel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=21417","title":{"rendered":"&#8217;28 Days Later&#8217; May Rise from the Crypt in &#8217;28 Years Later&#8217; Sequel"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>As reported in <a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/news\/will-danny-boyles-28-days-later-rise-from-the-crypt-with-a-sequel\/\"><em>CinemaDailyUS<\/em> <\/a>in November of 2022, <em><strong>28 Days Later<\/strong><\/em> may indeed be rising from the crypt. <a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/interviews\/pistol-director-producer-danny-boyle-punk-band-created-chaos-counterculture-in-1970s-u-k\/\">Danny Boyle<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/reviews\/men-review-alex-garland-takes-you-to-the-journey-of-human-nature\/\">Alex Garland<\/a>, the director\/screenwriter who created the macabre zombie horror film back in 2002 are reportedly planning a new trilogy called <em><strong>28 Years Later<\/strong><\/em>\u2014not to be confused with the <em><strong>28 Weeks Later<\/strong><\/em> sequel that they actually had little involvement with. <br \/><br \/>As if that weren\u2019t confusing enough, the duo once hoped to make a sequel they called <em><strong>28 Months Later.<\/strong><\/em> And if <em>that<\/em> weren\u2019t confusing enough, Boyle and Garland are hinting their proposed <em><strong>28 Years Later<\/strong><\/em> project is not going to be a sequel at all, but a whole new trilogy of films.<br \/><br \/>Promoted by William Morris Endeavor, <strong><em>28 Years Later<\/em><\/strong> is now making the rounds in studioland, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/28-years-later-in-the-works-1235783306\/\"><em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>, which broke the news this week. According to press reports, the project is estimated to cost $75 million, far more than the relatively barebones $8 million pricetag on the original film, which grossed $84 million globally and has become a cult classic.<br \/><br \/>Eerily foreshadowing the recent pandemic, <em><strong>28 Days Later<\/strong><\/em> narrated the exploits of Jim (played by Cillian Murphy), a bicycle courier in London who awakens from a coma to learn that a contagious virus has wreaked havoc around the world. The cast of the dystopic film also included Megan Burns, Christopher Eccleston, Brendan Gleeson, Naomie Harrie, Noah Huntley, and Stuart McQuarrie.<\/p>\r\n<p><br \/>The <em><strong>28 Weeks Later<\/strong><\/em> sequel debuted in 2007 with Boyle and Garland listed as executive producers. It was directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and grossed $65 million against a budget of $15 million.<br \/><br \/>Danny Boyle\u2019s most recent film was the 2019 romcom <em><strong>Yesterday<\/strong><\/em>. Alex Garland directed <em><strong>Men<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>Ex Machina,<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Annihilation<\/strong> <\/em>as well as the upcoming dysopic flick <em><strong>Civil War<\/strong><\/em> for A24.<br \/><br \/>In November of 2022, Boyle was quoted in <em>CinemaDailyUS<\/em> as saying: \u201cI\u2019d be very tempted [to direct a new film]. It feels like a very good time actually. It\u2019s funny, I hadn\u2019t thought about it until you just said it, and I remembered \u2018Bang, this script!\u2019 which is again set in England, very much about England.
