The nominations for the 51st Annie Award have been announced, the ceremony is considered the Oscars of the animation world, Hayao Miyazaki\u2019s \u201cThe Boy and a Heron<\/strong><\/a>\u201d and Makoto Shinkai’s “Suzume no Tojimari<\/strong><\/a>” has been selected as the best feature category.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNimona<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d Netflix<\/a>\u2018s sci-fi fantasy about a disgraced knight and a shape-shifting teenager, led the features category of the 51st Annie Awards\u00a0nominations with nine, including best feature, director, character animation, character design, production design, storyboarding, voice acting, writing and editorial.<\/p>\n

\u201cNimona<\/strong>\u201d will face with a critical darling film, \u201cSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse<\/strong>\u201d from Sony Pictures Animation, Japanese fantasy-adventure \u201cSuzume<\/strong>\u201d distributed by Crunchyroll<\/a>\/Sony Pictures, Paramount and Nickelodeon\u2019s \u201cTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem<\/strong>\u201d and the Golden Globe winner \u201cThe Boy and the Heron<\/strong>,\u201d the first feature from auteur Hayao Miyazaki in a decade, out of Studio Ghibli and distributed by GKIDS in U.S<\/p>\n

\u201cBlue Eye Samurai<\/strong>,\u201d also a Netflix project, topped the field in the TV\/media categories, picking up seven nominations. It was followed closely by Disney TV Animation\u2019s \u201cMoon Girl and Devil Dinosaur\u201d and Lucasfilm\u2019s \u201cStar Wars: Visions\u201d with six each.<\/p>\n

At the end, Netflix movies and series dominated the animation awards with 28 nominations. The nearest competitors were Disney with eight, Pixar and Lucasfilm with seven each and DreamWorks Animation and Apple with five apiece.<\/p>\n
