STUDIOCANAL International<\/a> has dropped a new trailer for \u201cBack To Black<\/strong>,\u201d a new biopic about the late Amy Winehouse<\/a>, has debuted its first footage. The film is starring \u201cIndustry<\/strong>\u201d actor Marisa Abela as Winehouse and directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson<\/a> (\u201cNowhere Boy<\/strong>,\u201d \u201cFifty Shades of Grey<\/strong>\u201d).<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u201cBack to Black<\/strong>\u201d is executive produced by Nicky Kentish-Barnes, Ron Halpern and Joe Naftalin\u00a0for Studiocanal and Alison Owen and Debra Hayward\u00a0for Monumental Pictures from a screenplay written by Matt Greenhalgh (\u201cFilm Stars Don\u2019t Die in Liverpool<\/strong>\u201d).<\/p>\n

\u201cIndustry<\/strong>\u201d star Marisa Abela will both act and sing as Winehouse within the film which follows her rise to fame in London in the early 2000s, The film is said to paint a \u201cvivid, vibrant picture of the Camden streets she called home\u201d and capture \u201cthe struggles of global fame\u201d when Any and Taylor-Johnson first met and became friends along Camden\u2019s High Street scene.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The film also stars Jack O\u2019Connell stars alongside Abela as Winehouse\u2019s husband, Blake Fielder-Civil. Eddie Marsan stars as Winehouse\u2019s father, Mitch Winehouse, with Juliet Cowan as Winehouse\u2019s mother, Janis Winehouse-Collins. Lesley Manville plays Winehouse\u2019s grandmother, Cynthia Winehouse.<\/p>\n

Amy quickly became one of the most popular recording artists in recent history, selling over 30 million records worldwide and generating over 80 million streams per month.<\/p>\n

After her death, numerous documentaries about her life and legacy have emerged, including the Oscar winner in 2015 for best documentary feature, \u201cAmy<\/strong>,\u201d as well as the 2021 BBC TV film \u201cReclaiming Amy<\/strong>.\u201d The biopic was first announced to be in development in 2018.<\/p>\n

There were already some backlashes when images of Abela on set in London emerged last year, apparently in character as Winehouse in distress \u2013 beehive dishevelled and makeup smudged.<\/p>\n

It’s understandable that fans want to protect the singer and her legacy. During her life, Winehouse’s image, drug and alcohol consumption were routinely exposed by the press<\/p>\n
