Mickey 17<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, the much-anticipated sci-fi thriller by Korean director Bong Joon-Ho<\/a>, will finally be released on January 31, 2025, says Warner Bros. The film will also be available on IMAX screens. It had originally been scheduled to debut on March 29, 2024 until it was postponed indefinitely.<\/p>\r\n

According to Variety<\/em><\/a>, the rescheduling is allowing the creative team more time to complete the production, which had been delayed in part due to last year\u2019s writers\u2019 strike.

Based on Mickey7<\/em>, a novel by Edward Ashton, Mickey 17<\/strong><\/em> is being written and directed by Bong. It will be his first film since his highly acclaimed Parasite<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. Robert Pattinson<\/a> heads a cast that includes Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo. The release will be Pattinson\u2019s first screen appearance since The Batman<\/strong><\/em>, in which he debuted as DC\u2019s most recent version of the Dark Knight.

According to the official synopsis, Mickey 17<\/strong><\/em> focuses its lens on an Expendable, who is described as \u201ca disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there\u2019s a mission that\u2019s too dangerous \u2014 even suicidal \u2014 the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal \u2026 and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it.\u201d

Bong is hoping that Mickey 17<\/strong><\/em> will replicate his highly successful Parasite<\/strong><\/em>, which set earnings records as the highest-grossing Korean movie ever. It was also the first non-English film to win an Oscar for best picture. Bong is producing the new film via Offscreen, his own production company, joined by Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner of Plan B and Dooho Choi of Kate Street Pictures.<\/p>\r\n

The 54-year-old Bong began making films in the early 2000s. His first features were Barking Dogs Never Bite<\/strong><\/em> (2000) and Memories of a Murder<\/strong><\/em> (2003). His first English-language film was Snowpiercer<\/strong> <\/em>(2013).
