Wednesday, May 19, 2021 \/\/ Montreal, Quebec — The Fantasia<\/span> International Film<\/span> Festival<\/span> is proud to announce the first wave of programming for its upcoming 25th edition, set again to take place as a virtual event accessible to audiences across Canada. The festival<\/span> will run from August 5 – 25, 2021 and will include scheduled screenings and premieres, panels, and workshops, with film<\/span>s once again hosted on the leading-edge platform created by Festival<\/span> Scope and Shift72. As the summer approaches, Fantasia<\/span> organizers will be following advice from local health authorities in Montreal with respect to the possibility of adding a limited range of physical events as well. In celebration of the key role that Japan\u2019s culture has played across Fantasia<\/span>\u2019s history, the festival<\/span>\u2019s 25th edition will be featuring an enhanced focus on Japanese cinema.<\/p>\n

Following the earlier news of the festival<\/span>\u2019s opening film<\/span>, the world premiere of Julien Knafo\u2019s Quebec-set zomcom BRAIN FREEZE starring Roy Dupuis and Iani B\u00e9dard, details on the first wave of feature film<\/span>s are revealed today, with the full lineup to be announced in late July.<\/p>\n

Axis, Fantasia<\/span>\u2019s animation section, announces first two titles hailing from opposite ends of the globe that prove animation is for the young and the old<\/p>\n

Beastly behaviour abounds in Avid Liongoren\u2019s HAYOP KA! THE NIMFA DIMAANO STORY<\/strong>, a steamy soap opera satire from the Philippines. The decidedly adult-oriented animation, which boasts a fully Filipino cast and crew, follows Nimfa the cat as she searches for true love and happiness and must decide between the two dogs in her life. Midnight mischief is afoot in LITTLE VAMPIRE<\/strong>, the latest film<\/span> adaptation from France\u2019s Joann Sfar (THE RABBI\u2019S CAT), who both created the original children\u2019s comic and helm\u2019s the magically monstrous and endearingly morbid feature about the unlikely friendship between a never-aging vampire and a human boy. The 25th edition of the Fantasia<\/span> International Film<\/span> Festival<\/span> will be presented by Videotron in collaboration with Desjardins, and will be made possible thanks to the financial assistance of the Government of Quebec, SODEC, Telefilm Canada, the City of Montreal, the Conseil des arts of Montreal and Tourisme Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n
