The Harry Potter<\/strong><\/em><\/a> television series is set to make its debut on Max in 2026. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed the news during the company’s Q4 earnings financial call today, Variety<\/a> is reporting.<\/p>\n

The television show is expected to span seven seasons. Each installment will adapt a different entry in J.K. Rowling’s best-selling fantasy book series. The first season of the show is expected to premiere in 2026.<\/p>\n

“We’re not been shy about our excitement around Harry Potter<\/strong><\/em>,” Zaslav told analysts. He noted that the last installment in Warner Bros. Pictures’ film series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows \u2013 Part 2<\/i><\/strong>, was made more than a dozen years ago.<\/p>\n

Warner Bros. Discovery’s CEO also said he was in London a few weeks ago with HBO and Max content boss Casey Bloys and Channing Dungey, chairperson of Warner Bros. Television. The trio was in England to meet with J.K. Rowling, about the show, which will be a faithful adaptation of the latter’s novels.<\/p>\n

“We spent some real time with J.K. and her team,” Zaslav revealed the call. “Both sides are just thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead. We can’t wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max.”<\/p>\n

Warner Bros. Television has not yet announced any casting plans for the Harry Potter<\/strong><\/em> show. But the\u00a0 studio has said it will feature an all-new cast from the movie series.<\/p>\n

Daniel Radcliffe<\/a>, who portrayed the Boy Who Lived in the eight Warner Bros. films, has said he’s not seeking a part to play on the new show. During an interview with Deadline<\/a>, the former Hogwarts pupil explained that he’s not currently looking to make a cameo appearance on the television series.<\/p>\n

“Certainly, everything I’ve read about the series (says) they’re starting fresh, so it’d be a bit weird to have me pop in… I think that Harry Potter was always destined to become like Sherlock Holmes… There’s probably an eight-year-old kid out there whose life is going to change in a couple years, so my brain does go there,” the Emmy-nominated actor shared.<\/p>\n

During an interview with Variety<\/em> <\/a>last month, Dungey discussed the progress of the Harry Potter<\/strong><\/em> television show, which will be produced by Warner Bros. TV for Max. “We’re in conversations with a number of different writers to figure out who’s going to be the person to lead that franchise for us,” he disclosed.<\/p>\n

Dungey added that the rumors speculating that casting is already under way for the television series are inaccurate. “The first step for us is figuring out who this showrunner is going to be and once we get that locked down, then we can start having those (casting) conversations. The tricky part is the first two books, where the kids are on the younger end, around 11 or 12,” he pointed out.<\/p>\n

Rowling \u2014 who has made controversial statements about gender over the past few years \u2014 responded to Harry Potter<\/strong><\/em> fans last year who say they plan to boycott Max’s TV screen adaptation over her involvement.<\/p>\n

“Activists in my mentions are trying to organize yet another boycott of my work, this time of the Harry Potter<\/strong><\/em> TV show. As forewarned is forearmed, I’ve taken the precaution of laying in a large stock of champagne,” Rowling, who’s serving as an executive producer on the television show, wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).<\/p>\n

The Harry Potter<\/strong><\/em> television series has reportedly been in development since 2021. It has been given a 10-year commitment by Warner Bros. Discovery.<\/p>\n
