According to a report in <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/03\/shogun-premiere-streaming-viewership-fx-1235847360\/\"><em>Deadline<\/em><\/a>, the launch of FX\u2019s 10-episode series has garnered 9 million views on Hulu, Disney+, and Star+ in just its first six days.<br \/><br \/>As a result, <a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/interviews\/shogun-interview-hiroyuki-sanada-anna-sawai-eriko-miyagawa\/\"><em><strong>Sh\u014dgun<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>has become the number-one scripted series premiere for Disney General Entertainment, eclipsing <em><strong>The Kardashians<\/strong><\/em>, Season 1. It\u2019s also number one at Hulu in the United States, nudging out <em><strong>The Bear<\/strong><\/em>, Season 2. Disney only rarely divulges streaming data, so it\u2019s unclear how this compares to some of its earlier releases.<br \/><br \/>The first three episodes of the Edo-period drama are now streaming on Hulu and Disney+. New episodes will be available on Tuesdays through April 23. Next week\u2019s episode \u201cThe Eightfold Fence\u201d will be streamed on Tuesday March 12.<br \/><br \/>Based on the eponymous 1975 novel by James Clavell, <em><strong>Sh\u014dgun<\/strong> <\/em>was given the go-ahead by FX\u2019s top honcho John Landgraf in 2018. It was adapted for television by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, working with a production team that included Kondo, Michaela Clavell, Edward L. McDonnell, and Michael De Luca.<\/p>\r\n<p>The backstory for <em><strong>Sh\u014dgun<\/strong> i<\/em>s described in the series\u2019 official synopsis, which reads: \u201cIn Japan in the year 1600, at the dawn of a century-defining civil war, Lord Yoshii Toranaga is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him, when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village.\u201d<br \/><br \/>The series stars <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm4008605\/\">Cosmo Jarvis<\/a> as John Blackthorne and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0760796\/\">Hiroyuki Sanada<\/a> as Lord Yoshii Toranaga. Other leading members of the mostly Japanese cast include Shimnosuke Abe, Tadanobu Asano, Takehiro Hira, Moeka Hoshi, Hiroto Kanai, Yuka Kouri, Yuki Kura, Fumi Nikaido, Tokuma Nishioka, and Anna Sawai.<br \/><br \/>The American-born Cosmo Jarvis moved to England as an infant. His other film credits include <em><strong>Lady Macbeth<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>Calm With Horses<\/strong><\/em>, <strong>Persuasion<\/strong>, and the upcoming <em><strong>Alto Knights<\/strong><\/em>.
