Hayao Miyazaki, the legendary Japanese anime director, was crowned Best Animated Feature winner for The Boy and the Heron<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0at the U.S. Academy Awards<\/a>, beating out four other films in the same category, including Disney’s ‘Elemental’ and the U.S. superhero film ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.’<\/p>\n

For the first time in more than two decades, Miyazaki was honored with one of the industry’s highest honors. His film, Spirited Away<\/strong>, won an Oscar in 2003, following the awarding of the Golden Bear, which is the top prize at the Berlin International Film Festival the previous year.<\/p>\n

“We are just extremely grateful. Miyazaki was very happy,” Toshio Suzuki, a producer and co-founder of Studio Ghibli Inc., Miyazaki’s production company, said at a press conference in Tokyo.<\/p>\n

Despite announcing his retirement in 2013 after producing The Wind Rises<\/strong>, another of his Oscar-nominated films, Miyazaki started his latest project in 2017. During our celebration of the great comeback, the latest Godzilla Minus One<\/strong>\u00a0won the award for best visual effects, which is a first for Japan in the category.<\/p>\n
