In an interview this week on CNN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/03\/25\/entertainment\/olivia-colman-pay-gap-gbr-scli-intl-gbr\/index.html\"><em>The Armapour Hour<\/em>,<\/a> she remarked, &#8220;I&#8217;m very aware that if I was Oliver Colman, I&#8217;d be earning a fuck of a lot more than I am. I know of one pay disparity, which is a 12,000 percent difference.\u201d<br \/><br \/>Continuing, Colman asserted that women have always been \u201cbig office draws,\u201d a fact that doesn\u2019t seem to have any influence when it comes to remuneration for their work. \u201cMale actors get paid more because they used to say they draw in the audiences and actually, that hasn\u2019t been true for decades,\u201d she added. \u201cBut they still like to use that as a reason to not pay women as much.&#8221; <br \/><br \/>Colman, who was promoting her recent film <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt20234774\/\"><em><strong>Wicked Little Letters<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, grumbled that &#8220;People say men get paid more because they get more bums on seats. That\u2019s a lie! It can be proved in the box office. I don\u2019t know why we\u2019re still having to discuss it!&#8221;<br \/><br \/>As evidence, she noted in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/movies\/olivia-colman-gender-pay-gap-movies-newsupdate\/\"><em>RadioTimes<\/em> <\/a>interview last month that &#8220;some of the biggest-grossing films \u2013 <em><strong>Barbie, Bridesmaids<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>Thelma &amp; Louise<\/strong><\/em> \u2013 are led by women.\u201d<br \/><br \/>In a recent podcast, Colman also complained of the double standard by which women are judged more harshly for their use of obscene language in films. In the context of <em><strong>Wicked Little Letters<\/strong><\/em>, she said &#8220;If a woman swears, people act shocked. Fuck off! Women are human \u2013 funny, filthy, loving, caring \u2013 just like men. The women [in the film] are looked at and judged and, unfortunately, that still exists. Trolling is something they did even then [in the 1920s], but in the form of letter writing.&#8221; <br \/><br \/>Colman, also noted for her roles as the late Queen Elizabeth II in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt4786824\/\"><em><strong>The Crown<\/strong><\/em><\/a> and as the eighteenth-century monarch Queen Anne in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt5083738\/plotsummary\/\"><em><strong>The Favourite<\/strong><\/em><\/a><em><strong>, <\/strong><\/em>was likely not paid a king\u2019s ransom for these performances.<br \/><br \/>Just for the record, according to <em>Forbes<\/em> magazine, the highest-paid actor in 2023 was Adam Sandler, who earned $73 million, followed by <em><strong>Barbie<\/strong><\/em>\u2019s Margot Robbie, at $59 million.
