Julia Garner<\/a> has been cast as Silver Surfer in Marvel Studios’ upcoming The<\/em> Fantastic Four<\/em><\/strong> reboot, Deadline<\/a> is reporting. The SAG Award-winning actress will play Shalla-Bal, a version of Silver Surfer from the Marvel comics, Dead<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The news comes after the four actors set to play the iconic members of the titular comic book superhero team were announced. Those four actors who have already been announced to star in the MCU’s Phase Six action-adventure film include Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (aka Mr. Fantastic). The Emmy-nominated actor’s casting comes after John Krasinski most recently played the character on the big screen in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Joining Pascal and Garner in the upcoming Fantastic Four<\/em><\/strong> reboot’s eponymous roles are Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (aka the Invisible Woman) and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (aka the Human Torch). Ebon Moss-Bachrach will round out the cast as Ben Grimm (aka the Thing).<\/p>\n

Matt Shakman, who previously made a name for himself in the MCU for his Emmy-nominated work on WandaVision<\/i><\/strong>, is set to direct the new Fantastic Four<\/em><\/strong> movie. The film was written by Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, Eric Pearson and Ian Springer.<\/p>\n

Production is expected to begin on the reboot this summer. The movie is set to be released on July 25, 2025 by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. No plot details have been revealed about the feature yet.<\/p>\n

However, the new screen adaptation will reportedly take place in the 1960s. The decade is the era in which writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby first introduced the Fantastic Four, the team that launched the Marvel Universe in comics.<\/p>\n

The Silver Surfer was introduced in in Fantastic Four <\/em><\/strong>No. 48 as the herald of Galactus, a planet-eating entity. That version of the character was an alien astronomer known as Norrin Radd. Garner’s version of the Silver Surfer, Shalla-Bal, will instead be the lover of Norrin Radd.<\/p>\n

Garner began to make a name for herself in Hollywood when she won her first of three Emmys in 2019 for her portrayal of Ruth on the Netflix crime drama Ozark<\/em><\/strong>. She was also nominated for an Emmy for her portrayal of Anna Delvey on the limited series Inventing Anna<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Since the end of Ozark<\/strong>, <\/em>Garner started focusing on her film slate. She received acclaim for her performance in the recently released psychological thriller, The Royal Hotel<\/em><\/strong>, which she also produced through her Alma Margo production banner. The drama reunited the Golden Globe-winner with filmmaker Kitty Green, after they previously worked together on the 2019 drama, The Assistant<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Garner will next be seen on the big screen in the Blumhouse and Universal supernatural horror movie, Wolf Man<\/em>, which is being helmed by Leigh Whannell. Garner will also appear in Paramount’s psychological thriller, Apartment 7A<\/em><\/strong>, which is being produced by Krasinski.<\/p>\n
