{"id":22872,"date":"2024-04-07T19:01:58","date_gmt":"2024-04-07T23:01:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=22872"},"modified":"2024-04-08T03:54:05","modified_gmt":"2024-04-08T07:54:05","slug":"quentin-dupieuxs-the-second-act-will-kick-off-cannes-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=22872","title":{"rendered":"Quentin Dupieux&#8217;s &#8216;The Second Act&#8217; Will be the First Act at Cannes on May 14"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>The Second act \u00a9 Chi-Fou-Mi Productions<\/p>\r\n<p>This year\u2019s Cannes Film Festival\u2014the 77th\u2014will open on May 14 with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm1189197\/\">Quentin Dupieux<\/a>\u2019s absurdist comedy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.festival-cannes.com\/en\/press\/press-releases\/quentin-dupieux-s-new-comedy-to-open-the-77th-festival-de-cannes\/\"><em><strong>Le Deuxi\u00e8me Acte<\/strong> <\/em>(<em><strong>The Second Act<\/strong><\/em>)<\/a>, starring<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm2244205\/\"> L\u00e9a Seydoux<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0512071\/\">Vincent Lindon<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0308039\/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1\">Louis Garrel<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm7629969\/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1\">Rapha\u00ebl Quenard<\/a>. The film, which will be shown out of competition at Cannes, will debut in theaters in France on the same day. <br \/><br \/>Dupieux is one of France\u2019s most prolific filmmakers, having made some thirteen features since 2007. His latest films, both from 2023, include <em><strong>Daaaaaal\u00ed<\/strong><\/em>, which played out-of-competition at the Venice Film Festival, and <em><strong>Yannick<\/strong><\/em>, a box-office hit in France and beyond.<br \/><br \/>In selecting <em><strong>Le Deuxi\u00e8me Acte<\/strong><\/em> to launch this year\u2019s festival, Cannes officials called Dupieux a \u201cfilmmaker who embraces freedom in tone, form and subject \u2026 establishing the absurd as a genre in its own right and shaking up all the others \u2013 of which <em><strong>The Second Act<\/strong><\/em> is a perfect case in point!\u201d<br \/><br \/>The film\u2019s official synopsis hints at the plot: \u201cFlorence wants to introduce David, the man she\u2019s madly in love with, to her father Guillaume. But David isn\u2019t attracted to Florence and wants to throw her into the arms of his friend Willy. The four characters meet in a restaurant in the middle of nowhere.\u201d<br \/><br \/>This is not the first time Dupieux will have shown a film at Cannes: others have included <em><strong>Smoking Causes Coughing, Rubber, Dawn<\/strong><\/em>, and <em><strong>Deerskin<\/strong><\/em>. Dupieux is noted for his frequent use of dream sequences in his films. <br \/><br \/>Greta Gerwig is serving as president of the jury for this year\u2019s twelve-day festival, which runs from May 14-25. The full lineup will be announced by Thierry Fremaux on Thursday of this week.
