Prime Video Japan<\/a> has announced that it will officially begin streaming Godzilla Minus One<\/strong><\/em> on Friday, May 3. The news comes after the movie was released in theaters across Japan and the U.S. last November and December. Amazon Prime Video made the announcement this morning on its X\/Twitter<\/a> page.<\/p>\n

The the epic kaiju film will be available to stream in both color and black-and-white. The streamer’s decision to show both version comes after the drama’s distributor, Toho International, screened a remastered black-and-white version of the feature in theaters in January.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Amazon Prime Video has not yet announced when it will begin streaming the movie in the U.S. The company is expected to stream the film in America soon, though, as the project won the Best Visual Effects Oscar last month.<\/p>\n

Godzilla Minus One<\/strong><\/em> has also earned widespread acclaim in its native Japan, where it was shot. At last month’s ceremony of the Japan Academy Film Prize, which is considered to be the country’s equivalent of the Oscars, the feature won Picture of the Year, amongst six other awards.<\/p>\n

The other trophies included Best Screenplay for Takashi Yamazaki<\/a>, who penned and directed the drama. The movie was also recognized in the Best Supporting Actress category for performer Sakura Ando.<\/p>\n

Upon its theatrical release, Godzilla Minus One<\/strong><\/em> was considered by fans and critics alike as the best kaiju movie in decades. Toho International even had to expand the film’s limited run in America due to its popularity.<\/p>\n

Set in the wake of World War II, Godzilla Minus One<\/em><\/strong> follows a failed kamikaze pilot as he adjusts to the bleak world left behind by war. When the titular monster rears his head off the coast of Japan, the man and his fellow citizens must take the nation’s protection into their own hands.<\/p>\n

Godzilla Minus One<\/em><\/strong> is the 37th movie in the Godzilla<\/i><\/strong> franchise and Toho’s 33rd Godzilla<\/i><\/strong> feature. The project is the fifth film in the series’ Reiwa era.<\/p>\n

Besides Ando, the drama also stars Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura and Kuranosuke Sasaki. At the Japan Academy Film Prize ceremony, Kamiki was nominated for Best Lead Actor, and Hamabe received a Best Lead Actress nomination.<\/p>\n
