Steven Spielberg is reuniting with successful genre screenwriter David Koepp to develop a new UFO movie, Variety<\/strong><\/a> is reporting. The duo previously worked together on such high-profile films as Jurassic Park<\/em><\/strong> and its first sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park<\/i><\/strong>, as well as the last two Indiana Jones<\/em><\/strong> features.<\/p>\n

A title for the duo’s upcoming UFO movie has not yet been revealed. Plot details also haven’t yet been announced about the new film, but the project will reportedly be based on Spielberg’s own story idea<\/p>\n

The new movie comes after the duo also collaborated together on another UFO-focused feature, the hit 2005 sci-fi thriller, War of the Worlds<\/em><\/strong>. The film turned H.G Wells’ seminal 1898 sci-fi novel into a visually terrifying tour de force that blended elements of war cinema with horror and disaster themes.<\/p>\n

Spielberg<\/a>‘s most influential early movies centered on the subject of UFOs. Close Encounters of the Third Kind<\/em><\/strong> followed Richard Dreyfuss’s character, the electric lineman Roy Neary, as his life was turned upside down by an encounter with a UFO. The classic family film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial<\/strong><\/em> followed the eponymous alien befriend a group of kids and evade government agents as he tried to phone home.<\/p>\n

Spielberg and Koepp first worked together on Jurassic Park<\/b><\/i> when the director decided to adapt Michael Crichton’s 1990 novel of the same name for the screen. The helmer recruited the screenwriter to help pen the script.<\/p>\n

The screen adaptation was so successful that has spawned five sequels, collectively of which have earned over $6 billion at the global box office. The franchise is set to continue next year with a new Jurassic World <\/strong><\/em>movie starring Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey.<\/p>\n

In recent years, Spielberg has stepped away from directing the dinosaur-related franchise, and allowed other filmmakers to make the latest Jurassic World<\/em><\/strong> trilogy. The last feature the three-time Oscar-winning filmmaker helmed was the semi-autobiographical coming-of-age drama, The Fabelmans<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The movie follows a young man who aspired to become a filmmaker was critically acclaimed. It earned a variety of nominations during last year’s awards season, including Best Picture and Best Director at the Oscars.<\/p>\n

Last year, Spielberg also started developing a documentary about film composer John Williams. “I’ve enjoyed his company and the pleasure and the gift of his inspiration. Can a muse be a man? He’s certainly been a muse for me,” Spielberg told Comic Book<\/a>\u00a0when the film’s development began.<\/p>\n

“I don’t think we’ve ever had a disagreement….I mean, what am I going to do? Sit down and write the music myself?” The nine-time Golden Globe-winning helmer added: “In the art form that we’ve both chosen, he has been the most steadfast brother and collaborator that I’ve ever had in my life..”<\/p>\n

While Spielberg only remains on the Jurassic World <\/em><\/strong>team as an executive producer, Koepp is headed back into the franchise. The screenwriter is set to work on the script for Jurassic World 4<\/em><\/strong>, which will be directed by Gareth Edwards and be released in theaters next summer.<\/p>\n

More than 30 years after Jurassic Park <\/em><\/strong>redefined the scope of blockbuster movies, Koepp, who has also scribed Mission: Impossible <\/em><\/strong>and Spider-Man<\/em><\/strong>, remains dedicated to the legacy of the film series he launched with Spielberg. Jurassic Park<\/em><\/strong> is now streaming on Netflix.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
