All Rights Reserved.<\/p>\r\n<p>Despite popular and critical acclaim, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/news\/shogun-sets-streaming-records-during-its-first-week\/\"><strong>Shogun<\/strong><\/a> <\/em>may not be returning for a second season on FX, says showrunner and co-creator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm1098479\/\">Justin Marks<\/a>.<br \/><br \/>Marks told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/shogun-finale-season-two-1235878683\/\"><em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a> this week that the production team may have run out of creative juice to expand on what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0165412\/\">James Clavell<\/a> had written in his 1975 novel, on which the series is based. Marks was quoted as saying: \u201cI don\u2019t know. \u2026 I think if we had a story, if we could find a story, we would be open to it. But I don\u2019t think that anyone ever wants to be out over their skis without a roadmap and everything. And it\u2019s also just about, do people want more of it?\u201d<br \/><br \/>It&#8217;s been suggested that one strategy might be for the show\u2019s creators to do an anthology series based on some of Clavell\u2019s other books, such as <em>Tai-Pan<\/em>, which is set in Hong Kong in the 1840s. However, Marks admitted that such a series would be difficult to pull off, given the different settings and timeframes. Referring to FX\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt2802850\/\"><em>Fargo<\/em><\/a> <\/strong>series, he said \u201cBut it\u2019s tough because [in] <em><strong>Fargo<\/strong><\/em>, you\u2019re still telling different threads of the same place, whereas The Asian Saga goes all over the place for good reason. So it\u2019s hard. You\u2019re not actually building off that same language in the same way.\u201d <br \/><br \/>\u201cI don\u2019t know if Clavell could have done it either,\u201d Marks added. That\u2019s probably why he moved on to other books too, right? He knew what he had done. Yeah, it\u2019s a tough one.\u201d<br \/><br \/>Despite these misgivings, critics have been lavish with praise for <em><strong>Shogun<\/strong><\/em>. Rosie Knight wrote in <em>IGN<\/em> that its \u201cshocking finale \u2026 will likely be remembered as one of the best in television history. \u2026 It was a masterclass in pulling back the curtain.\u201d She was referring to the fiery destruction of the ship piloted by the British invaders led by John Blackthorne, which effectively allowed the shogun to assert his power even as Japan ultimately was forced to end its insularity and isolation from the West.<br \/><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/author\/nobuhosokigmail-com\/\">Check out more of Edward&#8217;s articles.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a9\u00a02024, FX.
