A young woman jumps into the backseat of a yellow taxi, the cabbie throws the vehicle into drive as the two head out into the night toward Manhattan. Dakota Johnson is a passenger in both life and a yellow taxi cab, seeking connection with whomever is most near.<span class=\"gmail-Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">For her, that turns out to be crash driver Clark, played by Sean Penn in the two-hander drama, \u201c<strong>Daddio<\/strong>.\u201d Their shared journey is from New York City\u2019s John F. Kennedy Airport to Hell\u2019s Kitchen, with Johnson\u2019s character Girlie determined to get to Clark\u2019s innermost being. He\u2019s not into it. The indie feature written and directed by Christy Hall debuted at TIFF 2023 and will next play at Tribeca 2024.<\/p>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1774669342741533\" data-ad-slot=\"1211148813\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">\u201c<strong>Daddio<\/strong>\u201d was originally conceived of as a stage play, but thanks to producer Emma Tillinger Koskoff (\u201c<strong>The Irishman<\/strong>\u201d), production designer Kristi Zea (\u201c<strong>Revolutionary Road<\/strong>\u201d), and director of photography Phedon Papamichael (\u201c<strong>Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny<\/strong>\u201d), the script became a feature. Production lasted only for 16 days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">\u201cBecause she is our generation of women who are still approaching these men in a nonjudgmental way because it\u2019s fascinating. We\u2019re not threatened by it,\u201d producer Donnelly said. \u201cAnd that reveals her power, the fact that she holds her own. She really is reflective of all the women who made this movie, she\u2019s our girl. And we like that she\u2019s so curious and almost tickled by [him], especially when he\u2019s saying crazy shit. She\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, really?\u2019 She goes head to head with him,\u201d said Hall. \u201cAnd that\u2019s what we love about her is she\u2019s not afraid. She\u2019s not afraid to really fucking go for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">Unfolding in real time, the pair strike up the most unexpected conversation, which results in a single epic, remarkable journey. Christy Hall makes her feature film debut writing and directing the film that is produced by Johnson, Ro Donnelly, Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Christy Hall, Paris Kassidokostas-Latsis, and Terry Douglas.
