All Rights Reserved.<\/p>\r\n<p>Asserting that he\u2019s blaming Facebook for the January 6 insurrection,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0815070\/\"> Aaron Sorkin<\/a> has confirmed that he\u2019s working on a followup to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1285016\/\"><em><strong>The Social Network<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, the 2010 film directed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000399\/\">David Fincher<\/a> that chronicled the rise of the social-media behemoth. According to industry observers, the project is in its \u2018very, very early stages\u201d and is not connected to another January 6 project Sorkin had been talking about.\u00a0<br \/><br \/>Sorkin. who had earlier won an Oscar for his screenplay for that production, revealed his plans during a live recording of \u201cThe Town\u201d podcast, which was taped at a pre-party event before last week\u2019s White House Correspondents&#8217; Dinner.<br \/><br \/>\u201cFacebook has been, among other things, tuning its algorithm to promote the most divisive material possible,\u201d Sorkin complained. \u201cBecause that is what will increase engagement. That is what will get you to \u2014 what they call inside the hallways of Facebook \u2014 \u2018the infinite scroll\u2019 \u2026 There\u2019s supposed to be a constant tension at Facebook between growth and integrity. There isn\u2019t. It\u2019s just growth.\u201d <br \/><br \/>Sorkin had said in 2021 that \u201cwhat has been going on with Facebook these last few years is a story very much worth telling, and there is a way to tell it as a follow up to<em><strong> The Social Network,\u2019<\/strong><\/em> and that\u2019s as much as I know.\u201d At the time, he expressed his hope that David Fincher would again sign on as director. Fincher acknowledged afterwards that he\u2019d discussed the idea with Sorkin but seemed reluctant to take on the project.<br \/><br \/><em><strong>The Social Network<\/strong><\/em>, which starred <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0251986\/\">Jesse Eisenberg<\/a> as Facebook guru Mark Zuckerberg, was both a critical and a commercial success. It garnered eight Oscar nominations, including one for best picture, and earned $224 at the box office around the world. <br \/><br \/>In the recent podcast, Sorkin also drew parallels between this year\u2019s presidential campaign and the one in 1968. He said he was worried about the impact pro-Palestinian demonstrators might have if they target this year\u2019s Democratic National Convention. \u201cI hope that students \u2014 people who are planning on demonstrating there, and I\u2019m all for demonstrating \u2014 I hope they remember that Nixon barely beat Humphrey in 1968, and it\u2019s very likely the sight of riots at the [Democratic convention in Chicago], turned some people off from Democrats.
