The streamer also dropped a first look at Larra\u00edn\u2019s latest Venice-bound biopic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">During the festival runup, the streamer won a bidding war with at least one major distributor. Netflix appears to be a natural place for the movie, which will be a contender in the awards season. Larra\u00edn&#8217;s trilogy, which revolves around inspiring female protagonists, started with<strong>\u00a0Spencer<\/strong>, starring Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana, and\u00a0<strong>Jackie<\/strong>, starring Natalie Portman as Kennedy Onassis, both garnered best actress nominations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">\u201cI\u2019m excited to partner again with the Netflix team who care so passionately about movies. This film is my most personal work yet,\u201d Larra\u00edn said in a statement. \u201cIt is a creative imagining and psychological portrait of Maria Callas who, after dedicating her life to performing for audiences around the world, finally decides to find her own voice, her own identity, and sing for herself. I\u2019m deeply honored to tell this story and share it with audiences worldwide like Maria did with her life.\u201d<\/p>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1774669342741533\" data-ad-slot=\"1211148813\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">Callas, an American-born Greek soprano singer who became one of the most famous opera singers of the 20th century, is explored in the film, which is based on true accounts.<span class=\"gmail-Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>In a 1970s Paris setting, Maria chronicles her final days, besides Jolie, the film also stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alba Rohrwacher, Pierfrancesco Favino and Valeria Golino.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">When Larra\u00edn said to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2022\/film\/news\/angelina-jolie-pablo-larrain-maria-callas-1235411003\/\">Variety<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2022\/film\/news\/angelina-jolie-pablo-larrain-maria-callas-1235411003\/\"><span class=\"gmail-s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/a>two years ago, Larra\u00edn said it combined his \u201ctwo most deep and personal passions, cinema and opera.
