Filmmakers Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw received a lot of attention for their 2020 documentary, <\/span>The Truffle Hunters<\/i><\/b>, which took a look at a number of men in their 70s and 80s in Piedmont, Italy, who (as the title implies) spend their time trying to find rare and valuable white truffles. It premiered at that year\u2019s Sundance Film Festival to great acclaim before having its theatrical release delayed by COVID. Even so, it still won many awards including that DGA (Directors Guild) award for documentary and a similar award from the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) in the same category.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their third film together,<\/span> Gaucho Gaucho<\/i><\/b>, takes them to another part of the world, in this case Northern Argentina, where they spent many years following a small group of \u201cgaucho gauchos,\u201d whose livelihoods rely on being able to care for their animals and their families. Dweck and Kershaw spent months with these people to capture their everyday lives, often in long single shots with jaw-dropping cinematography capturing places that few others will ever have a chance to visit.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their new movie also premiered at this year\u2019s Sundance Film Festival, where it won a Special Jury Award for its sound, and since then, it\u2019s run a gauntlet of other film festivals across the globe, giving audiences a look into the lives of these hearty individuals who live off the land.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cinema Daily US<\/span><\/i> had a chance to speak with Dweck and Kershaw last week ahead of <\/span>Gaucho Gaucho<\/i><\/b>\u2019s <\/span><\/i>premiere at the <\/span>2024 DOC-NYC<\/span><\/a> on November 16 and 18, which may be the last time Americans will be able to see this movie on the big screen. It will be getting a South American theatrical release, but in the States, it will be available to stream via <\/span>Jolt<\/span><\/a> starting December 1.<\/span><\/p>\n
