{"id":27631,"date":"2024-12-06T18:47:19","date_gmt":"2024-12-06T23:47:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=27631"},"modified":"2024-12-08T00:15:15","modified_gmt":"2024-12-08T05:15:15","slug":"francis-ford-coppola-plans-film-based-on-edith-whartons-the-glimpses-of-the-moon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinemadailyus.com\/?p=27631","title":{"rendered":"Francis Ford Coppola Plans Film Based on Edith Wharton&#8217;s &#8216;The Glimpses of the Moon&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>\u00a9Courtesy of Youth Without Youth\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>Just a week before the release of <strong>Megalopolis<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000338\/\">Francis Ford Coppola<\/a> is already talking of his next project: a filmic adaptation of Edith Wharton\u2019s 1922 novel <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Glimpses_of_the_Moon_(Wharton_novel)\"><em>The Glimpses of the Moon<\/em><\/a>.<br \/><br \/>Describing the novel as \u201ca whimsical, very interesting story that I love,\u201d Coppola was quoted in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/films\/0\/director-francis-ford-coppola-interview\/\"><em>Telegraph<\/em><\/a>, a British newspaper, that he hoped to shoot the film in London. His projected film, he said, would include \u201cstrong dance and musical elements\u201d that would make it \u201ca very odd confection.&#8221;<br \/><br \/>Wharton\u2019s novel tells the story of Nick Lansing and Susy Branch, two impoverished New Yorkers who hope to marry but agree to separate if either of them finds a more stable financial relationship. Thanks to their wealthier friends, they are able to spend their honeymoon in several luxurious venues, but they find that their new relationship is beset by jealousy and the prospect of unfaithfulness.<br \/><br \/>Although his much-touted <em><strong>Megalopolis<\/strong> <\/em>seems to be falling short of his expectations, Coppola told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/entertainment\/movies\/2024\/12\/02\/francis-ford-coppola-kennedy-center-honors\/\"><em>Washington Post<\/em><\/a> that he believes the epic will \u201cplay for 40 years.\u201d <br \/>The indefatigable Coppola, who turned 85 in April, also reportedly has plans to re-edit several of his earlier films, including <em><strong>Youth Without Youth<\/strong><\/em> (2007) and <em><strong>Tetro<\/strong> <\/em>(2009). The auteur has also been working on another epic that narrates the story of three generations of an Italian American family and the invention of the medium of television. Titled <strong><em>Distant Vision<\/em><\/strong>, the story is based on <em>Buddenbrooks<\/em>, the 1901 novel by Thomas Mann.<br \/><br \/>Francis Ford Coppola first came to prominence with several acclaimed films he directed during the 1970s, including <em><strong>The Godfather<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>The Godfather Part II<\/strong><\/em>, and <em><strong>Apocalypse Now<\/strong><\/em>. In addition to <em><strong>Megalopolis<\/strong><\/em>, several of his later films include <strong><em>Rumble Fish<\/em><\/strong> (1983), <em><strong>The Godfather Part III<\/strong><\/em> (1990), <em><strong>Bram Stoker\u2019s Dracula<\/strong><\/em> (1992), and <em><strong>The Rainmaker<\/strong><\/em> (1997).
