The upcoming film will be the long-awaited sequel to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0335345\/\"><em><strong>The Passion of the Christ<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, Gibson&#8217;s 2004 blockbuster about the final days of Jesus on earth.<br \/><br \/>Speaking on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrepodcast.com\/episode\/joe-rogan-experience-2254-mel-gibson\/\">Joe Rogan\u2019s podcast<\/a> this week, Gibson said of the script, \u201cI\u2019ve never read anything like it. There\u2019s some crazy stuff. In order to tell the story properly you have to start with the fall of the angels. You\u2019re in another realm. You need to go Hell. You need to go to Sheol.\u201d<br \/><br \/>Gibson added: \u201cIt\u2019s going to require a lot of planning. I\u2019m not sure I can pull it off. It\u2019s super ambitious, but I\u2019m going to take a crack at it \u2026 &#8220;<\/p>\r\n<p><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1774669342741533\" data-ad-slot=\"1211148813\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\u00a0<br \/><br \/>According to Gibson, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0001029\/\">Jim Caviezel<\/a> will once again play the role of Jesus, as he did in the original 2004 film. He noted that he\u2019d been working on the script for the past seven years with his brother <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0316945\/\">Donal Gibson<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0908824\/\">Randall Wallace<\/a>, who wrote the script for <em><strong>Braveheart<\/strong><\/em>.<br \/>This time around, the dialogue will probably be in English rather than Hebrew or Aramaic because of the complex theological issues involved: \u201cWho gets back up three days later after he gets murdered?\u201d Gibson added. \u201cBuddha didn\u2019t do that shit.\u201d<br \/><br \/>Gibson personally believes in the orthodox interpretation of the three days following Christ\u2019s crucifixion, which holds that Christ literally descended into hell and rose from the dead on Easter morning. <br \/><br \/><em><strong>The Resurrection of the Christ<\/strong><\/em> will not be limited to the three days between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, however. It will include scenes describing what is referred to as \u201csalvation history,\u201d taking audiences from the fall of the angels at the creation of the world to the death of the last apostle, John, at the end of the first century.\u201d<br \/><br \/>With a global box office of $612 million <em><strong>The Passion of the Christ<\/strong><\/em> was the highest-grossing independent film of all time.
