GKIDS<\/a> has released a new video for The Colors Within<\/strong><\/a>, chronicling the search for records with director Naoko Yamada<\/a> for the upcoming U.S. release of the coming-of-age music anime film that centers on three students who form a band and find friendship along the way.<\/p>\n

GKIDS has acquired the film for North America, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand, while Anime Ltd. has acquired the film for the United Kingdom, Ireland, and all of Europe. PLAION PICTURES will handle Italian and German speaking territories. GKIDS and Anime LTD have engaged Charades to manage sales for the rest of Europe, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand.<\/p>\n

The distributors along with animation studio Science SARU and producers Story inc. revealed the new film\u2019s official English language title as\u00a0THE COLORS WITHIN<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The film will have its world premiere in competition at the prestigious 2024 Annecy International Animated Film Festival. GKIDS and Anime Ltd. will theatrically release the film in both its original Japanese language and a new English dubbed version this winter, and GKIDS will qualify the film for 2024-25 awards consideration. The film will be domestically released in Japan on August 30th.<\/p>\n<\/ins>\n

SYNOPSIS<\/b>:\u00a0Totsuko is a high school student with the ability to see the \u2018colors\u2019 of others.\u00a0Colors of bliss, excitement, and serenity, plus a color she treasures as her favorite. Kimi, a classmate at her school, gives off the most beautiful color of all. Although she doesn\u2019t play an instrument, Totsuko forms a band with Kimi and Rui, a quiet music enthusiast they meet at a used bookstore in a far corner of town. As they practice at an old church on a remote island, music brings them together, forming friendships and stirring affections. Will they discover their true \u2018colors\u2019?<\/p>\n

THE COLORS WITHIN<\/b>\u00a0is directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Naoko Yamada (\u201cA Silent Voice\u201d<\/i><\/b>, \u201c<\/i>Liz and the Blue Bird\u201d<\/i><\/b>, \u201c<\/i>The Heike Story\u201d<\/b>), with production from studio Science SARU (\u201cScott Pilgrim Takes Off<\/b>,\u201d\u00a0Inu-Oh<\/i><\/b>, \u201c<\/i>The Heike Story<\/i><\/b>\u201d<\/i>). Producer Genki Kawamura\u2019s Story inc. (\u201dYour Name<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>.<\/i><\/b>,\u201d \u201d<\/i>Weathering With You<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>,\u201d \u201d<\/i>Suzume<\/i><\/b>\u201d<\/i>), is additionally attached to the film for planning and producing. Screenwriter Reiko Yoshida (\u201dRide Your Wave<\/i><\/b>,\u201d\u00a0<\/i>\u201cViolet Evergarden<\/b>\u201d) penned the script, and longtime Science SARU collaborator kensuke ushio (\u201cDEVILMAN crybaby<\/b>,\u201d \u201cChainsaw Man<\/b>,\u201d \u201dA Silent Voice<\/i><\/b>\u201d<\/i>) composed the score. Frequent Science SARU collaborator Takashi Kojima, who most recently worked with director Yamada on \u201cThe Heike Story<\/b>,\u201d joined the production as character designer and animation director.<\/p>\n

Director Yamada worked as a key animator on many seminal television series, such as \u201cThe Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya<\/b>,\u201d \u201cLucky Star<\/b>,\u201d and \u201cClannad<\/b>.\u201d She went on to direct the beloved show \u201cK-On!<\/b>\u201d and its sequel, as well as the critically acclaimed animated features \u201dA Silent Voice<\/i><\/b>\u201d\u00a0<\/i>and \u201dLiz and the Blue Bird<\/i><\/b>.\u201d\u00a0<\/i>In 2021, Yamada directed \u201cThe Heike Story<\/b>,\u201d her first work at studio Science SARU, which also debuted to wide acclaim.<\/p>\n

GKIDS and ANIME LTD. have worked together on many of the top anime titles of the past several years, with GKIDS taking North America and Anime Ltd. taking UK and additional territories. The film won the Golden Goblet Award for Best Animation Film at the 2024 Shanghai International Film Festival, it tied with \u201cMemoir of Snail<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u201d\u00a0for the Audience Award at the 7th Animation Is Film Festival.<\/p>\n
